FreeTaxUSA is very limited and will not handle most personal income tax returns. In addition, it is a web-based software and you agree to share your personal information for marketing purposes. Not worth the risk of security issues and risking personal information.

No premium version ?
No need for premium. Despite the marketing, deluxe does pretty much everything premium does.

The government lobbying to keep tax prep more complicated so Americans wouldn't need Intuit's services is especially nauseating
Edit - Oops I misunderstood your statement. I assume you mean the lobbying by Inuit is nauseating, not the governments efforts to provide an IRS run option.

That might be The Deal of this tax season.

TU and Repped.
Egh!

While the addition of a gift card with the purchase does effectively make it the lowest price of the season...I believe NewEgg can do better.

They could either drop the price to $15 or offer even more Gift Card options. While the current list of gift cards is decent, NewEgg could offer even more restaurant gift cards to this deal to make it even more appealing.

There's still hope NewEgg will lower the price going forward.

Freetaxusa.com is provided by the IRS. Just file yourself boys n girls instead of getting raped by HR block and TurboTax which rape your wallet each tax season.
FreeTaxUSA is not from the IRS, but it is free for federal e-file and $15 for (each) state. It can handle pretty much any personal tax scenario. Not sure about business taxes.

The IRS is piloting IRS Direct File this year in 12 states, but limited scenarios are covered. They plan to expand the functionality in coming years. More info: https://www.irs.gov/about-irs/a-c...file-pilot

Freetax does not upload tax documents from banks or brokerages.

Unfortunately the free filing options only work for simple tax returns and lower incomes. Most have income limits and don't handle investments such as limited partnerships and any business income. Most people have some business income - selling on Ebay or whatever - so the free solutions only work for a handful of filers. In addition, you agree to share your personal information with those sources, so there are security concerns for any of the online filing tools.

That is very much incorrect. It handles most every scenario. You are not forced to share your tax information for marketing purposes. Every prep software has to explicitly ask for that.

Stop making baseless claims.

It is explicitly not provided by the IRS. They're just a company.

Note: State e-file is not included. It's a $19.95 add-on.
Always how it is. Print and stamp to save the $$$.

It's not a lie that your info is stored on servers since it's a cloud based protocol. This software is local with cloud based options.

Many free tax softwares don't handle schedule E and other things beyond w2 and 1099-int. However, not all of them are so limited.

You don't need to. TurboTax and H&R don't either when you e file. At least the desktop versions.
