Wow, that's a very quick price drop. This just released in October.

FWIW I enjoyed the first game very much but the constant microtransactions soured the experience before long. I bought the game and the season pass (described as the three main dlc drops). But before the season pass even dropped, dev started releasing additional paid dlc car packs, then a "racing season" paid dlc which used a grinding progression system to earn limited time rewards (cosmetics, cars, in-game currency). The whole atmosphere of the game revolved around the racing season, and getting new meta cars. It reminded me very much of the Destiny 2 season grind.

Then the first main dlc dropped which was nice, included new courses and challenges, but once that was done, the next set of paid cars released, the next racing season was announced, and I felt burned out by the constant dollar signs and fomo grind that the game really pushed. So I walked away.

Yep, I had a similar experience with the first game, which I primarily bought for my son to play. I ended up buying him the dinosaur car expansion only to learn that paying for the expansion doesn't get you the cars--you have to grind for that. But before we could earn the t-rex monster truck, the devs stopped supporting the game. My son and I are still pissed about that one.

I didn't get very far into the first game, but I too got frustrated quickly with how many areas, tracks and cars were hiding behind pay walls. Stopped playing not very far in. A shame because it was fun while it lasted

The review I read didn't say anything about paywalls but did bring up it's slightly blurry in handheld and worse you can't play people, or download the tracks, from people playing on the other systems.

Is the consensus that this isn't a great buy and my 4 year old would get frustrated?

My six-year-old is frustrated by it, as am I when I've played with him.

Doesn't this have a ton of in app purchasing? The game should be free.

If this is anything like the 1st game, it'll be very difficult. It was a great game but way too hard to get farther than the first few levels.

I bought this for the PS5 hoping I could race against others online. It took 5 min to find 2 other players. If you want this for multiplayer definitely do your own research.

This sounds pretty spot-on, but I must have started the game too late because I don't remember seeing anything about a racing season. But I didn't start playing until around 6 months ago or so. I finished a couple months ago and the grind to complete the game was so ridiculous that I swore I would never even touch a sequel.

FWIW, I played it for "free" on PS+ and ended up buying the DLC for around $10 before I started hating the game. I really loved it at first too, but they really sucked the joy out of it by making it so difficult.
