Snagged a Marantz Cinema 40 from this place. Was real hesitant, but did it anyways. Tested the hell out of it for a couple weeks. Receiver works like new. Saved about 1500 bucks.

Yes, they have been around for decades. Most Audiophiles and Audio enthusiasts know the site. I have purchased from ac4l a few times.

Why is this refurbished "Merantz Receiver" better than this new "Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505 9.2-Channel 8K A/V Receiver" with much better specs/brand new/lower price:

Yes. Great place to purchase from. They're local here in Orlando.

Have it. Like it.
Cons:
Speakers make buzzing noise if you are very close
PC over hdmi can be wonky. It just turns black and you have to switch inputs back and forth
The buzzing can be because of your speakers themselves or the connection. How did you narrow it down to the receiver? Same with the connection to PC. If it is in fact the receiver, have you reached out to Marantz?

Is this refurbished receiver considered Bette than this new Pioneer receiver for a lower price:

It depends.
Feature wise, no the Pioneer offers much more for less.

This would be more for someone that doesn't need those added features and prefer Marantz.

Sorry you missed it, good receiver.
It was actually posted back in July and people talked about the condition on that post FYI.

I'm not sure why the downvotes but hopefully the downvoter can help clarify what's so amazing about this receiver.
It's because using channel number as a single metric for "impressive" is a Confidently Incorrect kind of thing to say and discourages anyone from engaging.

This is very concerning for a Marantz!

This is a bit of an unhappy medium… good amp but not feature rich - may be a better use to get separates or the onkyo/yamaha high ends.

Any opinions if this think is worth the upgrade over a Yamaha TSR-700 / RX-V6A? I don't have anything special in the way of speakers -- 6.5" JBL surrounds/heights, Monoprice columns (the "higher end" ribbon ones) for LCR, and a speedwoofer.

One thing I wish the Amazon had was better home integration options for HDMI switching, but it's been pretty solid otherwise. I don't know what I'm missing sound quality-wise, though. Paid $400 for the Yamaha.

Thanks for your response, appreciate it. Trying to decide which of these 2 receivers to buy. I didn't know that Pioneer Elite was like Toyota and Marantz like Mercedes. It's just hard to digest and pay $150 more ($799) for a refurbished receiver compared to buying a new Pioneer Elite with Dirac Live Room Correction, 120-watts/per channel, and host of other features for only $649 (retail here is also much higher). I thought Pioneer Elite was a decent receiver, certainly not something to be beaten by this refurbished receiver, but I am still learning and consider myself a novice here.
