I got the Neptune 3 pro for my first printer, it's pretty much perfect out of the box. 15 minute setup. Haven't really had any problems in 8 months. $200 isn't bad for what you get

Every 3d printer, especially at this price point will need to be tinkered, constantly. Bambu Labs are the closest to getting away from that, but still need their attention, and 3X and up price.

Would this be a good starter printer? Or is it now way too outdated? Is this one one of those printers you have to tinker with endlessly just to get a decent print? As in, I don't want to become a printer mechanic before I can even print anything. Any advice is appreciated

You can get a Bambu A1 mini without the AMS for $299. (I have the normal A1) it was a game changer for me, almost everything is automated and it is incredibly easy to use.
Most people don't need a big print bed and that makes the A1 mini a fantastic starting printer.

Waiting for them to give me 50$ to take one. Not too long ago you'd spend 120$ on just the motors. Incredible how things have changed.

These really are great. Please be aware they have recalled the full A1 for strain relief issues on the heated bed I believe. Might be something to watch for. I would look at reinforcing it just to reduce the risk.

It was not a full recall. It turns out that the base of the cable where it connects to the print bed is easily damaged. For the people who did not accidentally damage their cables, they're able to print off a protective cover. I was lucky enough that my A1 is fine.

No personal experience with this mfr but the s8 printer looks questionable to me. That's a really big print area to have no bracing on the uprights. Seems like you would get Y axis issues as the prints got taller. Note that the S9 does have the braces.

The few reviews I skimmed didn't seem that positive so I'm not sure I would jump on this.

While I know the Bambu stuff is really good, I don't see the A1-mini as a good substitute for something with a 300x300x400 print volume. Yeah, you may not always need that much space and the Bambu labs have a great reputation for easy to use. However, if you need print volume the A1 mini's (180mm)^3 isn't going to cut it. Also, if your budget is limited then the $300 price may be a non-starter. On the other hand, there certainly is something to be said for plug and play with no headaches. Is your intent to make the printer the hobby or are the things you print the hobby?

Most individual print jobs don't require a big print bed. But, everyone is going to come across some things here and there that just won't fit on a smaller printer. $119 on the S8 is incredibly tempting just to have a 2nd printer with a bigger bed when I come across larger prints.

In for one. I've got a couple Creality printers, which I like, but this looks more or less comparable, with a nice upgrade in size, stability, and a filament dryer. Now I can permanently convert one of the Crealitys to laser engraving and have multiple printers going when I need it.

I'd get it for parts alone if I did not have 3 printers already. Should be good after converting into direct drive ($25 part at Ali) and few hours of tinkering.

Will be usable OOB as well for PLA
