Imho I wouldn't get the essential JBL model. It's micro-usb and it's not as loud, clear, and bass-y? compared the the Flip model.

If it matters, it also doesn't have the pairing connectivity that allows you to pair with other JBL speakers that have the same feature - PartyBoost.

Love mine. Gets pretty loud, battery lasts forever and very portable. Was shooting for an Apple HomePod but I used Kohl's Cash for my JBL and Kohl's doesn't carry Apple products.

I don't like the sound of my charge 4 at all. Upgraded from a charge 2 and regret it. It's louder for sure, but the high end is off until you get into higher volume levels. Most of the reasonable volume levels I use it at, the high end isn't right.

The lineup is a mess but at $70 for this I'd probably lean towards a current flip for less, or a charge 5 for more (staying within JBL). New models are coming out to so maybe worth seeing what happens with those.

These are great for the shower. Up high and make sure the back door is shut. Daily user and it's possible to replace the battery after about 5 years I changed my charge 3. YouTube it.
