This price is good. I have seen them dip a bit lower in OB--but not by much. Worth picking up if you need 36gb Ram. I picked up an OB-fair of this model for $2280. It had a few minor scratches and no power brick, but otherwise fine with only 4 charge cycles on the battery and full 1-year warranty + Applecare available. I would keep an eye on this as sometimes they can be priced differently at different times of day.

Would this config be sufficient for some light/mid gaming? Or would i be better served by an M2/M3 Max?

What do you guys think about the size and weight of the 16 inch over the 14? I liked the 16 for the screen real estate but will the weight bear me down if I have to actually carry it in a backpack? I liked the 15 inch on the air and I felt that the 14 was a bit smaller, nothing that you cannot live with but the 16 just feels about the right size. Also I felt that the bigger plam rest is more comfortable to rest your wrist and some more. I am really torn between this and the 16 inch M1 pro that I got at microcenter for $1409 after tax.

14" is the way to go. I had a 16" MBP and I didnt care for it. went back in a few months

If you have the 16" already, make that your exclusive laptop for the next few days. Pluses/minuses. The 16" is really tough for travel esp. with airlines being so stingy on how much you can bring and do you really want that thing under the seat in front of you? It's also not the best for certain situations in coffeeshops, etc. I found the 16" on my lap for long periods of time is actually less comfortable than the 14" because the bulkier edges can dig into my wrist after a while and the keyboard is just a bit too far away. But that screen... if you need it, you just have to live with it. It can work.

Not apples to apples comparison but I went from a 15" Touch Bar to the 14" M3 pro and love it. The 15 was just a bit too big for my liking. If you use your laptop on a desk, I'd go 16" but if you use it on the go and on your lap I would def suggest the 14.

Open Box Excellent is now $2,342.

Concur on 14 vs 16. I've had both and prefer 14 for travels but 16 helps when you can't use a 2nd monitor and need to run 3 apps on screen at a time (especially with older eyes that can't handle native resolution and need to use scaled). I'm constantly using Notes, VS Code, and Slack/Discord/Zoom. Another option could be to use an iPad with Sidecar. The extra weight isn't bad with a backpack that suspends it (I use a Peak Design Everyday 20L), but YMMV: I add weight to my backpack to "ruck" so that walking burns more calories.

There is an additional $50 off advertised with BB+. Does anyone know if this also knocks down open box price by $50? Thanks

No it does not -- tried this. They also won't take the $50 off of a price match (I'm also BB+ member) However, store managers have huge flexibility to knock hundreds off OB items. Had one store sell me the 14" 30 core M3 Max (listed as OB-excellent for $2800) for OB-"satisfactory" condition -- for $2500! Unfortunately, that laptop REALLY was in that condition as it was a lemon because it never took a charge and I had to return it. Sometimes there's a good reason for an OB besides buyer's remorse, but often I've gotten lucky.

However, there's a special right now for 10% in store credit on your "first" purchase if you apply for their credit card. When I went back to the store I price matched a new 14" M3 Max to Microcenter for $2879 so I just applied for the card, got approved, and they took 10% "off" that price. So I effectively paid $2592 for a new one, but the 10% is in store credit so not the best deal but I shop there a lot so I'll definitely use it and I like the 60 day return period as I'm not sure if I'll go with the max or the M3 Pro 1tb I got from them for $1800.
