The main difference between the ES2($199) and ES3($329) is the 2nd battery attached to exterior of the steering column, which you can see. This battery increases the functional range from about 12miles(ES2) to 25 miles(ES2+Xbat/ES3).

If you are interested in saving $50: This battery is plug & play with an ES2, with the additional of a physical bracket + 2 screws. The app & scooter display immediately recognizes the increased battery capacity and range. A VERY GOOD CONDTION used battery + bracket can be acquired for about $80 from Amazon sellers promising 10 charge cycles or less, which you can verify with the NINEDASH app. Recharge time obviously increases but I have done this and it's very easy to do. You can get cheaper used batteries on ebay but they def look more beat up and usually don't include the bracket + bolts that are needed.

I think the manually kicking up to speed is a safety feature you'll find on almost all electric scooters. It's so you don't accidentally set your thumb on the throttle and throw yourself to the ground.

I don't know if you are just goofing, but Segway is the most reputable name in all of scooters. I'm not saying they are the best featured, but they are a known quantity. Both Bird and Lime used the ES2 commercially for a while. You'll generally pay more for less features when buying a Segway at normal price, but they aren't a no-name Chinese manufacturer.

It requires the app for initial setup, but after that you don't need it unless you want to use the wheel lock function.

I would strongly recommend going with the F series or G30 over the ES series. It's a much better design that puts the battery weight in the board rather the the stem and has pneumatic tires which are better for comfort, grip, and safety. Solid tires can be tempting, but without any real suspension, they are not great. The ES series is long in the tooth and a very early gen that has some design issues.

How often do they run these refurb deals? I joined the Mileage club last month but it was too close to my birthday so it looks like I have to wait up to 30 days for the 1200 birthday miles which is another $50 off if I am not mistaken.
