I can't say for sure, but it sounds like it is printed on vinyl film (like a car wrap) and stuck to the metal backing. Unless there is a technology to print vibrant photos on metal. Just a guess.

Deal note: Cannot add the free smaller canvas when prompted for deal price. I believe only the stated size per OP (e.g. 16 X 24, not 24 x 26, or at least not a combination). I added proofing for $1.99 each, though this is additional to deal price.

Yes, there is.
I have one metal print, from Printique. Quite impressive.
Here's a quotation from them:
"HD Metal Prints are created by infusing images onto ChromaLuxe aluminum available in 4 finish options."

My understanding: there are three ways to do it, and the three methods are not equal in producing a quality product.
