Available from:About this book:
  • When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third. Thus began a singular adventure into various altered states of consciousness, along with a dive deep into both the latest brain science and the thriving underground community of psychedelic therapists. Pollan sifts the historical record to separate the truth about these mysterious drugs from the myths that have surrounded them since the 1960s, when a handful of psychedelic evangelists inadvertently catalyzed a powerful backlash against what was then a promising field of research.
  • A unique and elegant blend of science, memoir, travel writing, history, and medicine, How to Change Your Mind is a triumph of participatory journalism. By turns dazzling and edifying, it is the gripping account of a journey to an exciting and unexpected new frontier in our understanding of the mind, the self, and our place in the world. The true subject of Pollan's "mental travelogue" is not just psychedelic drugs but also the eternal puzzle of human consciousness and how, in a world that offers us both suffering and joy, we can do our best to be fully present and find meaning in our lives.

This book changed my life. Cannot recommend it highly enough. This is what Big Pharma doesn't want you to know, because they'd rather you stay ill and buy pills daily to treat the symptoms, than see you cured.
This is a fascinating book. There is also a Netflix docuseries by the same name. Would highly recommend!
I thought about buying this book but then I changed my mind.

I'm saying this as someone that has never once considered taking any type of psychedelic (now known as entheogens)… This was one of the most fascinating books I've ever read. I wasn't familiar with Michael Pollan's work before this and I thought it was written very well with an incredibly sharp narrative that stayed on point, but never felt too stuffy or academic. Definitely worth a read if you are open to it. Seriously fantastic book.

If you like Michael Pollan or this sort of topic, his follow-up book, This is Your Mind on Plants, is interesting and sometimes quite funny. He accidentally ran afoul of DEA regulations and had to wait for the statute of limitations to pass before he could publish it, but it's entertaining and really interesting. His narration of the audiobook is good, too, if you like that.

I was going to pass because I hate kindle reading, but a voice kept sending me back to this post. Not sure how I'll connect to download as I finally got all the Amazon apps cleared off, but here I am minus 2 clams.

Obviously not for the closed minded people making idiotic comments. If you can actually research, read and comprehend you will discover this area could have huge positive ramifications for people dealing with mental issues like PTSD.
