The base crash tests that all car seats legally sold in America must pass ensure that all car seats meet a baseline level of safety that is acceptable. Some car seats (this one included) add some additional safety features that at best add some additional safety measures in unique situations, and at worst are simply ways to upsell parents who are inclined to do anything that suggests more protection for their child. It's up to each family to decide which additional safety measures are "worth it."

Additionally, some car seats have things like built-in cupholders, adjustable leg support, easier attachment to car methods, easier harnesses to get on your child, better washability, are narrower to fit in smaller cars, are lighter to make it easier to switch from car to car, etc.

I have used 5 different car seats over the years. We bought the Nuna during the last sale for my near 4-year-old. We have had Britax, Graco, Evenflo, and now Nuna. I would say that the Nuna excels in being fairly lightweight compared to similar convertible car seats, has a nice sleek design that is easy to clean, and has some good additional safety and comfort features. Do these features warrant the additional $150+ price tag (when on sale) over a Graco? Likely not, but if you have some additional cash and the few beneficial features I mentioned above are worth it to you (like they were to us), then I think you will be happy.

As another poster mentioned, when you have kids you realize that you're putting in/taking out your kid from a car seat multiple times a day. Anything that can make that experience easier is worth considering. That said, if you are cash-strapped then you likely should splurge somewhere more meaningful in your life. Go to Costco and pick up the $200 Graco they often have and you'll be happy and your kiddo safe.
Bruh, every time I think I am finally gonna pull the trigger on a reclining massage chair….
You clearly don't have children. Move along now. 😂

On another note… I thought I read once that this flame retardant version from Nordstrom has material that was of lesser quality than the typical Nuna. Anyone have experience with that?

Nobody should buy a used car seat, hence why they're "close to worthless." And for the amount of time that a child will spend in this car seat, I'm sorry but $375 is nothing for their safety and comfort. I'm sure you've spent more on yourself for completely frivolous things, so I really don't understand this comment.

Gracos cost 1/3 of the price on target...

Fire-retardant free = easily flammable? Odd marketing point.

We have been pretty happy with the Graco extend 2 fit. My oldest was 99th percentile for height, the extra leg room was able to keep her rear facing for a long time, I just switched her over a couple weeks before her third birthday. We have another baby now so I have been looking at other seats like the Graco transitions so that we can move the toddler to that and then use the extend to fit for the baby once she outgrows her infant carrier.

I honestly had no idea that $500-600+ car seats even existed! It sort of blew my mind so I was really interested to know what made them cost so much more. I thought the regular price on our Graco was kind of crazy ($250 got on sale for $180 but I've seen them as low as $130) Thanks for your reply.

I'll forever post this in these nuna threads if it saves anyone some money and frustration. We have both this and the Graco 4ever DLX. I would return this and get another 4ever DLX in a heartbeat. The safety ratings are close so I'd say that's negligible. There are two things that REALLY annoy me with this seat.

First, the cup holders are positioned horribly. My kiddo is 2yrs 3mos and usually can't reach them because they sit too low. And even with tall cups, he can't see the cupholder to be able to consistently get the cup into them. Horrible design that results in a lot of frustration for both kiddo and parents. May as well have left them off altogether.

Second, the harness straps are awful about getting twisted up and turned around inside the clasps. It's just not fun to buckle kiddo into it often. The Graco is worlds better in that regard.

Just sharing my experience. For over $150 cheaper most of the time, the Graco 4ever DLX is a clear winner here. Only real minuses I would give it is it doesn't look as fancy and isn't quite as padded as the Nuna, but my kiddo actually seems to prefer the extra space in the Graco too.

Lol at first I thought it was saying it WAS fire retardant so I was like this seat is awesome for extreme families that like to vacation at erupting volcanoes, etc... then I realized I was reading it wrong.

Perhaps the chemicals added to fire retardant seats make some people weird. I don't really mind if fire retardant treated things touch my kid but apparently there are those that do

Excellent premium car seat. Have Graco too but quality is lacking. One can clearly see the difference if you had them side by side.
With that said, if you are lucky and have an easy going baby, any car seat sold on retail would suffice.

So buy a Graco if that's your price point. That comment wasn't directed at you.

I'm a new parent and yes fire retardant free does mean they don't add chemicals. I think in this case it uses wool fabric instead which is naturally fire retardant?

We ordered one for our 2nd car seat, should be in Monday. I'll be interested in seeing if it lives up to the hype. We used a Peg Perego infant car seat in the beginning, then a Britax boulevard, but I'm so sick of taking that thing out every time we drive a different vehicle than the one it's in. We have a big road trip coming up so I thought I'd splurge on this one because everyone raves about the comfort. I might have to pick up the Graco from Costco and compare them side by side and decide which to keep.
