Does FreetaxUSA allow you to attach a PDF supporting document when e-filing, or are you paper mailing your return?
Yes I was allowed to attach the PDF docs that my crypto exchanges sent me. This is only an option when I filed my transactions as a summary. FreetaxUSA strongly recommends to file just summaries if you have 10 or more transactions to report. Just before sending the tax return to the IRS, FeeTaxUSA will ask you to upload the required documents of your transactions.

Ooh good info. Don't know that was an option! Confirmation on their support forum here: https://community.freetaxusa.com/...-documents

Nice! I haven't heard of other tax prep services allowing attachments.

I assume this is only necessary if you have stock transactions in which the cost basis wasn't reported to the IRS (the Box B, C, E, and F transactions on Form 8949)?

I think they allow it in order to simplify the filling process. If you have a lot of transactions to file that is. It certainly saved me time.

Did anyone hold US Treasury mutual funds in which you need to make some/all of the dividends exempt from state income tax?

A lot of tax softwares have a checkbox to enter the amount of dividends that is state tax exempt, but CashApp Taxes doesn't. So I'm wondering if anyone who's entered the info can tell me how it shows up on a tax return so I can manually do it in CashApp Taxes?

I would search on the Bogleheads forum or ask there. This blog post [thefinancebuff.com] doesn't show the forms, but it does show how different tax software handles it, as well as several comments on the topic.

Does anyone know if you can preview the tax return first using "File by mail" in TurboTax (the free one through Credit Karma) and still edit the return afterwards? Or are you 'locked from making further changes' once they let you print the return?

I would try it in FreeTaxUSA because they will definitely let you see the forms any time. Intuit usually won't show you the forms until you pay, but not sure how that would turn out with the free credit karma version (which isn't available anymore unless you signed up earlier).

Thanks! Does FreeTaxUSA let you see/print the state return as well before paying?

Hmm I can't remember and haven't started this year yet. I want to say you can, but it's watermarked so you can't submit it without paying, but not sure about that. Let us know if you find out.
