Reviews seem to suggest these look good but put out very little heat.

I have a similar one. In comparison to a regular patio heater these put out very little heat. The reflector at the top is much smaller and therefore reflects virtually no heat. And even when you stand next to it, you will be cold from the waist down. That being said, it is great eye candy as everyone has a little bit of pyromaniac in them and the dancing flames are mesmerizing. Buy it for that but don't buy it expecting it to warm your area. And they also put out a lot of light---you won't need your patio lights to see.

I could not have said it better myself. I also had an incident where a strong gust of wind knocked mine over shattering the glass tube. I had to replace it. Good for aesthetics and ambience, not for heat.
