Not sure why this is downvoted- I spend a long time trying to love the snowball but I never even liked it. My only regret was not replacing it sooner.

What did you replace it with?

I didn't downvote the reply in question, but I'm sure it had to do with 1) It's not $50 for one, and 2) It's not used. So it was 2/3 misinformation and 1/3 opinion.

But on the topic... Have had the chrome version of one of these for years (I think it has a couple more pickup pattern options than the one in this deal). Does an amazing job for voiceovers and Teams calls. Never used it for any music stuff as I have mics designed for that, but for basic voiceovers, calls and podcasting it does a fine job.

What sort of distance does it pickup sound from? and how long is the usb cord? I've always used a headset (bluetooth now), but it would be great to not wear anything

It has a comfortable range, but the further you are from it the more obvious the room echo/resonance will be too. If you're near or far from a mic, it will sound like that.
The USB cord is a typical length, I think like 4 feet… side note, and this is going to sound weird, but I hooked it up to my music DAC/amp instead of a generic printer cable, and the Blue cable was noticeably better.

Is this mic better than the built-in on my 2019 MacBook Pro?

This mic, on a cheap arm, with Nvidia Broadcast, is some seriously good budget mic.

I've had one for years. It's a great mic, above average for PC audio. I've used it for recording vocals for music during lockdown, WFH, gaming, etc. The one thing I don't like is the blazing red LED on top.

Yeah, the iCE model removes the other cardioid pickup patterns. I got a Snowball iCE for my mom and a Snowball for me a decade and a half ago, they were nice at the time and fine for voice calls or gaming, but they didn't sound "pro" enough IMO when I started doing paid voiceovers, mainly due to how sensitive they were to distant sounds (room reverb/resonance). Room treatments or one of those acoustic "cubby" things would probably have solved my complaint. I have replaced it with a dynamic mic for voiceovers ~$50, and that type of mic is really great for spoken word.

I believe the Snowball doesn't have a headphone jack for low-latency monitoring - just fyi, in case you're looking for that.

Another budget USB mic that is often available for $30 that does have a headphone jack for monitoring is the Behringer Bigfoot. Although, it is larger than the Snowball.

Edit: at the time of this post, the Bigfoot is $33 on Amazon.

I've got one of these and love it. Audio quality for voiceover narration is great. You have to get super close to the mic for it to pick you up, though (within 2-3 inches)
