This is a dock, not an "enclosure".

I bought a Mediasonic NSO1-SU3 back when Newegg did FAR deals. Officially supports up to 8TB, but it recognizes and runs a 14TB just fine. Maybe I just got lucky?

It just means it was tested with 8TB. There is nothing special about the '8TB' number. It probably supports any size drive, but it just wasn't tested for it so they don't want to say that.

I have a couple USB enclosures that advertised 4TB maximum many years ago, and they both have 12TB drives in them now and runs just fine. I dont think the maximum drive range is really a big deal on these. Sabrent raises theirs all the time for the same models when new larger capacities comes out.

Power outage fried my NAS. I used this dock to clone the damaged disk for repair and got all my media back.

How can a damaged hard drive be cloned with an enclosure?

It took out probably the NAS itself but the drive was ok.

You will be should be able to see any drive over 3TB. If you can see 3 you can mount any drive with the same SATA interface in most cases. Check drive health, transfer files from a PC that refuses to boot, are most use cases.

Compresses, probably isn't the right word.. If you have <8TB of data on a 10TB drive, you can certainly clone it to an 8TB drive.

This deal is still alive. It's back in stock.

PS: it's dead again. Seems I bought the last one. Sorry.
