These are on clearance at my local home depot for 299, the only other depot around me that has stock also shows clearance, don't know what their price is though. They had a huge stack (BS shows 23 and 17 at the two stores around me). While this is a generic brand, it's awful cheap for a 24" 2 stage even if it needs some "adjusting" down the road.

Too bad it doesn't snow anymore in NJ. Would have jumped on this.

Bought it in October, opened it in December for our first snowstorm. Choke switch was shattered and handle was bent making it impossible to assemble. Warranty didn't respond or pick up the phone. Had to fight hard to get a refund from Home Depot outside of the return window.
Well, you waited 3 months to open it, who's fault is that? I can't blame HD for giving you hard time on the return considering their policy is posted everywhere.

No, that was the in-store price.

I bought one of these from a previous SD posting at about $429. I read the reviews and thought the issues were user error and setup related. I was wrong. I live in the northeast and actually have 3 snow blowers and a tractor in the stable, so not a novice with equipment. Was buying this to replace my oldest snow blower.

Assembled well (somewhat quirky design) and started well. Adjusted all the gearing and checked operation Foward and Reverse. All great. Into the shed for a week. Upon pulling it out for the first snowstorm it wouldn't go into gear. Whole internal drive disk axle became dislodged. Had to drain all liquids and bring back to Walmart for refund. Took them 3 weeks to return to Powersmart before they refunded my money.

Although a great price, I have to caution that this machine is likely a 2-3 season use at most before problems start to surface from extremely cheap construction.
Agreed. I had looked at buying last year and deep dived in to reviews and was a hard pass. Seemed like high probability to fail when I needed it most.

The price does make this a worthy a roll of the dice, but if you want reliability and something you can depend on when you need it, I highly recommend you spend the money on an Ariens.

If snow blowers were BBQ grills, this Powersmart would be the Charbroil that rusts out after a year or two, while an Ariens is a Weber that's still going strong 10+ years later.

In fairness I looked at the reviews and felt like at least some of the 1 stars were user error (one was like a broken shear pin and unsurprisingly the no name manupackager couldn't get them to someone to get replacement parts but shear pins shouldn't be hard to find) and several were shipping damage related. But it's definitely a made by the lowest bidder chinese unit, I didn't grab one but I'm still considering it at the 299 price point.

BS just shows "CLEARANCE" for HD, typically that means at least half of the original MSRP listed if someone has found it cheap somewhere, I think this is like 60+% off MSRP at my store so it may be more like 399 as some people are reporting at other stores. If you have a store wtih 10-20 in stock you'd be more likely to see that rock bottom pricing (my local stores showed 23 and 17 which looked about right there was a giant pile of them at the store I was in)

bS shows them at several local stores listed as "Clearance". When I call the stores the price is $799.

At $299 the unit is still a deal for me if it only lasts a season. Local guys charge me at least $250 clear the driveway and sidewalk every snowfall.

250 a snowfall, where do you live, on a race track?

I bought a 26-in power Smart a couple years ago. It works great. The problem with power smart is parts are almost impossible to get. My auger belt is stretched out now to the point where it's going to break soon. Power smart does not sell replacement auger belts for this model on their website. In fact, the items they do sell on the website seem to be completely random, a replacement blade for a mower, a replacement drive belt for a random snow blower that sort of thing
Amazon doesn't carry them. eBay doesn't carry them. Nobody seems to carry them. I talked to a local repair shop here and they told me they've had a power smart sitting in their shop waiting for a belt for 6 months. As ridiculous as it sounds if your belt breaks you pretty much need a new snowblower

The company likely ripped off a more reputable brand of snowblower at some point. I wonder if there's a belt for another manufacturer that would fit. If you haven't already I'd try searching reddit or forums to see if anyone has modified or worked on these. Might find some decent information.

I see a lot of mixed reviews. Got this from a Walmart deal 3 years ago and used it 2-3x a season (Midwest).

This year we had about 6-7" and it performed fantastically. It did struggle a bit where the snow was a little wetter, if it's fluffy it can probably handle 7-8" with ease I'd imagine. It's a large area too, commercial building with a 250 feet of sidewalk and 20 parking spaces.

Nothing has broken down so far besides the shear pins when I hit some uneven pavement. Starts up every time, but I only use ethanol free gas.

At this price, it's a steal for residential use and even light commercial. Unless you're in an area with heavy/frequent snow or have a lot of ground to clear, I don't see a reason to spend more.

I used this last winter in MN where we had snow multiple times a week. Worked great and threw the snow far. I know I'm screwed if anything breaks on it, however
