Tldr for those who want to use wz_mini_hacks:
  • Download v3 firmware version 4.36.9.139. You do not need the "RTSP firmware".
  • Format a microsd card fat32 (get good quality microSD). Put the firmware file at the root of sd card and insert into camera.
  • Hold Setup button while plugging in power for a few seconds until the light turns purple-ish. Camera is upgrading. Wait for it to complete and it will reboot.
  • Set up the camera in the Wyze app as normal, do not upgrade firmware if asked. Recommend to disable detection, recording, logo, notifications, etc. Give it a min or two to save.
  • Power off and pull SD card. Format card again. Download the wz_mini repo. Copy the files in "SD_ROOT" to the root of SD card.
  • Modify wz_mini/wz_mini.conf per the documentation (see below). Probably want to add your SSH key as well (etc/ssh/authorized keys). Can set ENABLE_SELFHOSTED_MODE="true" to block Wyze access.
  • Reboot, you should hear some set up audio.

I integrated my v3 cams with my surveillance system and disabled camera access to china.
Not true, I have this model with an SD card that records 24/7, I use the app and pay nothing

Bad reviews about not having free 3-month detection. They even charge you even you only want to record it to SD card

Model is a few years old but isn't this one still eligible for the free 15 second camplus lite recording feature (and saved for around 10 days)? As i recall, it will record for 15 seconds and then "rest' for 5 minutes. Also, as far as i know, throwing an SD card has always been free. I have a bunch of these cameras and they're pretty good (but i have had a few leak and fog at the lens after a year or two).

I see the one OP posted says "with Wyze Cam Plus A.I. 3 Month Detection Service" in the header. I wonder if it WAIVES access to my grandfathered CamPlus LIte subscription for all of my other older cameras?

4.4 overall ratring with 4200 revews. People complaining because they don't get something for free? Sounds about right these days. Gen Zs and millennials need to get off their phones and get into life.

Cameras are well made, work well and the app does it's job.

Cheers,

It is literally ADVERTISED that this comes with 3 month trial yet some folks didn't get it. That appears to be the difference between this particular listing and that other one without the free 3 months.

Those complaints are perfectly legitimate if true.

I've got some V2s, V3s and the OGs and I really, really love the OG! Great resolution but you lose the "free" 15 second recordings. The picture quality is as good as a Eufy 2k model which I also own. I have SD cards in all of mine and unlike the V3 which seems designed to randomly not work with an SD card, the OGs work great! $20, pop in an Endurance rated SD card and you're good to go!

Good to hear that you liked the OG model. I have some V2s and V3s but no OG. What would you say the major difference between V3 and OG? except the free 15 sec recording and appearance.

Lot of ppl on here being purposely obtuse when they defend the way wyze has chosen to increase profits.

But yeah, this is the last model that will allow cam plus lite. While the newer models don't list that anywhere on packaging, it's either pay a sub or put in an SD card and get a still image of the alert.

These are great little cameras for the price. I have lots and am still happy with them. There's just that spectre that wyze could at any point deviate further from the biz model most ppl bought them for. Cam plus lite could go away any day
