This is an objectively great helmet, typical for Shoei, but it lacks two super-nice-to-have features: ratchet clasp (versus the standard double D-ring) and drop down sun shades. If those don't matter to you and you have a Shoei-shaped head then you'll likely be really happy with this.

BTW always keep your gear receipts, put them in a file with your bike title.. If you ever have to make an insurance claim, you can be reimbursed.

Having been in two motorcycle accidents myself, I can't stress enough how crucial it is to invest in a good-quality helmet.

While you don't necessarily need to splurge on a $400 Shoei or Arai helmet, it's essential to choose a reputable source. Helmets from less reliable sources may have a mere "DOT" label printed on them without meeting the necessary safety standards.

Consider the following points:

Source Matters: Opt for helmets from well-known and trustworthy brands or authorized dealers. These helmets undergo rigorous testing and adhere to safety standards.
Certifications: Look for helmets with certifications. The Snell certification is the gold standard for motorcycle helmets, but it's not mandatory. Personally, I recommend helmets with at least an ECE certification, which ensures they meet higher safety standards beyond the basic DOT requirements.

Remember, your helmet is your primary defense against head injuries, so choose wisely. Ride safe out there! 🏍️🔒

well said ! + rep to OP for a bike deal, esp. one that is safety related. I considered this helmet and it's modular equivalent when I was looking for a new helmet to move up from my OG full face HJC about 2 years ago.. ended up going with an HJC i90 instead. Can't beat the features and comfort for the price. Agree with the comments here that the cost for a photochromic visor is just a bit too much to swallow. a Modular helmet with drop down sun visor + the PinLock shield is a perfect combo. I really wanted the Shoei, but didn't want to spend 3x as much for the brand name and cool graphics. Ride Smart. Ride Safe. ATGATT!

Stupid question - how does a $400 helmet any better than the $60 ones on Amazon?
If u ride. DONT EVER TRY to save money on a Helmet by buying a cheaper helmet. Buy a helmet from a reputable company. I've landed on me head with Shoei and I still ride lol

Thump up for motorcycle deals! As someone with more than 5 helmets (it's never enough), you can't go wrong with Shoei and Arai brands. They come with pricey price tag but extremely reliable, and durable. As someone who been riding for 5+ years and went down countless of times on the road and the track, I walked away with minor injury thanks to Shoei and Arai helmets. Strongly recommended getting expensive gears like Shoei, Arai, Dainese, and Alpinestars brands. Don't cheap out on your safety.

Personally I prefer d ring closure. Ratchet ones are very uncomfortable for me.
Most people do….nothing to wear out and it will work 100% of the time.

Shoei's are also handmade in Japan. It's literally a life or death purchase, get a helmet from a company that has a reputation for safety because with a proven track record, or take a chance on some cheap shit from China with zero proven safety incidents.

Better safety features. DOT approval for helmets are a joke. SNELL/ECE approved helmets are more expensive but they offer better safety.

And to add, there's also expensive BS helmets like Ruroc. Avoid those at all costs

Technically if they're snell rated and can pass the tests it's all comfort and convenience. The problem is quality control for a $60 helmet is... questionable. Also fit from the padding is usually night and day different and that affects a crash and everyday comfort. Turning your head at 70 mph you don't want your helmet shifting around on your head.

When riding I always invested heavily in my helmet and tires.

Got the rf1400 origami from cycle gear in end of Nov. Wonder if they would price match if the designs are different.

Go check out fortnine video on best helmets. He breaks down what the different ratings means and the technology that goes into a helmet, how it works to protect your noggin during a crash.

Tl;dr - you get what you pay for, but in this case, you hope to never have to find out.

You have to ask yourself, is my life/brain worth $400 or $33.59? I know what my answer is! I have always either used Arai, AGV, Nolan or Shoei. And fit is key in any helmet. Go try one on somewhere before you buy.
