This is about what it would cost to buy all the components yourself and assemble. Additionally, Alienware use proprietary motherboard and PSUs so upgrading would be difficult. However, since this is pretty top notch components, you probably won't need to upgrade for 5-7 years.

I would say this is a decent deal if you don't want to bother building yourself or care about upgrading.

100% correct, very proprietary, so hard to upgrade or change components.

If you have a Microcenter close to you, you are way better off getting a custom system for roughly the same price.

Also, if you want this for gaming, you are way better off with a 7800X3D vs. the 7950 in this unit. If you are getting this for a creator PC with no intention of upgrades besides memory later, this is fine.

None of your scenarios make any sense. Since when do you have to buy RAM from Dell? I put RAM from Amazon in my Aurora R13. Works great.

Why can't you upgrade to a 5090 or 6090? It's a card. Take out the old, put in the new.

Your comment about MB or PS makes no sense. What are you trying to say? I didn't say you can't upgrade either...I said you won't have a need to for years and by then you're going to have to buy newer parts to go with that new MB anyways, so might as well buy a new system.

If you're a tinkerer, then sure, go buy 20 parts from 20 different manufacturers and tinker away. Most people don't want to do that. I, like many, prefer having all the parts under one warranty that can be repaired quickly.

FWIW, I was building computers probably before you were born. I know a thing or two about the pros and cons of building vs buying prebuilt. You can have an opinion about what YOU prefer, but blanket statements that nothing can be upgraded is pure misinformation.

It will overheat under load, throttle itself and 1. Sound like a jet taking off 2. Stutter like a madman due to poor temps

Save yourself the hassle and money. Build your own

Obviously clueless... Maybe heat issues with earlier models, but not this one. Year solid so far, but I have Intel version.

These Alienware cases run so hot. For this kind of money buy another brand like Corsair, with proper cooling. Especially if your dropping this kind of cash, you want it to breath well
Dude, do you have this model? No, you don't. Earlier models weren't great with heat, but this one they revamped the chassis with better air handling. Not hot anymore.

dell isnt a semiconductor. all they do is slap their name on plastic cases and tell foxconn or whomever makes the mobo to minimize board specs to bare minimum. these pre-built brands are known to use the crappiest lowest quality parts possible. why dont they list the maker of the 4090? who makes the nvme and the ram and the psu? you'll eventually find out once you open the case. they cant hide that.
LOL ... they literally shoved DDR5-4800 in this thing. Can't get more egregious about using cheap components than that.

And the PSU uses a proprietary power connector to the motherboard. You can take your pick of two possible motives for that:

1) They wanted to save a few pennies by mass-producing a cheaper power cable.

2) They wanted to prevent people from using non-Alienware power supplies or motherboards.

Either way, the result is the same. You get screwed.

The only concern I always have with Alienware is I *think* they use a proprietary motherboard/case so you won't be able to upgrade them ever.
yes, proprietary PSU and cooler as well. I am also willing to bet it's going to have a generic GPU shroud with fans that are loud as hell. I know this because this bit me in the ass a little outside the warranty back when I got one with a 3080ti in it and had to spend around $500 on top of the alienware I paid $3000 for to replace the mobo, cooler, psu and case, but best of luck to anyone who buys this.

Comments arguing why anyone would need to upgrade a PSU or MB are not considering that this thing only has a 1 or 2 year warranty so if either of those components go out then you'll have to try to find compatible parts as opposed to just ordering any compatible MB or PSU.

Amazing that people still come into every prebuilt thread to talk about building it yourself. It's like the only thing they have in their pathetic lives that they can talk about.

I am thinking the same thing. Could you please share your parts list? My budget is 2500 too.
Where did you buy all the components?

The CPU only supports DDR5-4800 or 5200. Big deal. Other higher speeds come from XMP profiles. Looking at other prebuilts on BestBuy, if they spec the RAM speed, some are 4800 and some are 5200. These are from $2500+ systems.

Curious what RAM you expected them to "shove" into the system and do you know whether the RAM has XMP profiles for overclocking?

And yet no one can give an example or define what that is...

On Dell's site, 1455 people out of 1735 gave it 5 stars. Does garbage mean something different these days, like how fat means good?

Curious which Alienware computers you've personally owned?

It reminds me of a Winamp skin from the late 90s and I don't actually mind it.

It's weird that every photo is a render though. The interior cable connections look fake and goofy.
It really whips the llamas ass
