GE was bought by Haier a few years ago. They used to make good fridges.
Repeating: friends don't let friends buy Samsung or LG fridges.
I don't know about LG, but GE has always had a pretty solid reputation for fridges. And they've been around for a loooong time. Good luck!

Minor complaints on this GE that we're not an issue on the Samsung:
Can't open the right side drawer without opening the left door at least partially.
The full width short drawer similarly needs both doors wide open.
The inside water dispenser is slow and useless, better to just put a bottle in the fridge or get ice if you want cold water.
Nice things:
GE will send a free filter bypass plug if you call or chat. (I have RO fed to the ice maker line)
The doors on this unit have the least out swing of any unit we looked at. Ours is placed near a wall on the right so we can get this closer to the wall
I inherited one of those fridges in a house we just bought . I've taken the ice maker apart, sealed the inside of the ice maker compartment, reinforced the gasket going from the maker to the ice chute in the door, etc. That worked for a while and then we had to turn the maker off because of the ice build up. We're also getting an ice build up under one of the freezer drawers, which turns into a water leak outside of the fridge when the ice level gets high enough. I spent a day/night tearing the fridge and freezer compartments down. Fridge was ice free and I could hear water flowing down the drain tube but the freezer drain tube was iced up real bad. It took a while to thaw it out. I took some bare copper wire and wrapped one end around the heater and stuck the other end down the drain tube since I didn't have the new part designed to fix this. I left the fridge unplugged overnight and put it back together the next morning.
So far so good.. but I don't trust it. I also can't install the new motherboard because the previous owner didn't leave enough slack in the water line, so I can't pull the fridge out to access the back.
Ok.. rant over
