Samsuck and Losing Grievously... stay away. Appliance repair folks recommend simple Whirlpool products. When they need repair the parts are cheap and available.

GE was bought by Haier a few years ago. They used to make good fridges.

Repeating: friends don't let friends buy Samsung or LG fridges.
Search through SD threads for Samsung appliances, there are a TON of negative reviews and experiences. Samsung is great for TV's and stereos, but their appliance dept just can't quite get it right. Even positive threads on Samsung phones will have people slamming the appliances. If you really want one, swing by Lowe's "scratch and dent" or "backwall" section and you'll probably find Samsung fridges and washers and dryers for 50% off or more. But look at the reviews first to see what you're getting into. I'm a cheapskate and love a great deal, but the hassle of the Samsung is just not worth the discount.

I don't know about LG, but GE has always had a pretty solid reputation for fridges. And they've been around for a loooong time. Good luck!

Quote from adamant :
I have this. Still pretty new but no major complaints. Had a similar Samsung model at my last house with no complaints over 8+ years. I always avoid in-door ice makers which seem to be the source of most problems.

Minor complaints on this GE that we're not an issue on the Samsung:
Can't open the right side drawer without opening the left door at least partially.
The full width short drawer similarly needs both doors wide open.
The inside water dispenser is slow and useless, better to just put a bottle in the fridge or get ice if you want cold water.

Nice things:
GE will send a free filter bypass plug if you call or chat. (I have RO fed to the ice maker line)

The doors on this unit have the least out swing of any unit we looked at. Ours is placed near a wall on the right so we can get this closer to the wall
We started having trouble 6 months after we bought. The main board, the evaporator, compressor all have been replaced. Still won't hold 37 degrees. Latest they said Freon leak, they fixed. Still not working. They've spent more than a replacement reefer would've been. Haier took over GE appliances. Tech guy told me a lot of the old timers left.

I recently had the 33-inch width model installed from Lowe's, and I must say, the delivery team was fantastic. They went above and beyond, even removing my front door and storm door to ensure smooth delivery. Although it took them more than an hour to complete the removal and installation process, their dedication to ensuring everything was done correctly was commendable. Re-hooked water line as well.

The Facebook group still exists, it's just been renamed and you're not allowed to mention the name Samsung. People are still getting Samsung to refund them.

I inherited one of those fridges in a house we just bought . I've taken the ice maker apart, sealed the inside of the ice maker compartment, reinforced the gasket going from the maker to the ice chute in the door, etc. That worked for a while and then we had to turn the maker off because of the ice build up. We're also getting an ice build up under one of the freezer drawers, which turns into a water leak outside of the fridge when the ice level gets high enough. I spent a day/night tearing the fridge and freezer compartments down. Fridge was ice free and I could hear water flowing down the drain tube but the freezer drain tube was iced up real bad. It took a while to thaw it out. I took some bare copper wire and wrapped one end around the heater and stuck the other end down the drain tube since I didn't have the new part designed to fix this. I left the fridge unplugged overnight and put it back together the next morning.

So far so good.. but I don't trust it. I also can't install the new motherboard because the previous owner didn't leave enough slack in the water line, so I can't pull the fridge out to access the back.

Ok.. rant over
Do tell about this getting samsung to refund them... I have a huge samsung that worked great for several years and now only the freezer is usable... freezer stays at a range of 0 to -2... fridge is a frosty 66 degrees (it's 51 degrees out in my garage where it is, because it clearly can't be used in my house lol)... they also screwed me on a dryer that I was promised a replacement, then a refund and got nothing of either

This appliance only works properly between 60F and 100F. Not really suitable for a garage use.

can you suggest any (short of buying one made before 2000) that would be good in a garage?

All the box stores sell fridges that specifically say "garage ready". They're usually pretty bare-bones models. I don't personally have one, so can't say which is the best.
