This is nothing new, its been going for 6+ months but they changed it to points versus expiring coupons. Also the ink rewards have been cut in half offering only $20 in points versus $40
This new points system basically is a 50% reduction from the old rewards plan with the exception of this battery promotion giving 1000 points instead of 500 points ($2.50).

I usually just recycle like a single AA or AAA battery a month
Last year they ran a recycling promo for 3 months that gave $10 credit for tech (one item per month). At the time, I didn't need anything so I redeemed my $30 in credits for school supplies that I donated to a school program. I wish they would bring that promo back.
I had nothing but problems with that. They dont go bu the date it was delivered to them via the ups tracking, they go by when the open the box. If they dont get to it before the month , they will count it for the next month. If you dont know know when they open the box and say you ship March recycling in on the first of march, you will loose those credits. Also in the past, I took pictures of the shipping lable next to the open shipping box that had neatly stacked and countable cartridges in plain view only to get credit for a few of the 20 cartridges I mailed in.

Unless something has drasticaly changed, I recomend bringing them to the store. At the counter choose both e-mail and printed reciepts so you KNOW they are not going to say they never got it and if they do you have proof.

I stopped shipping the recycling because it is too much a pain in the arse to call chat with them in corecting their error.

I hope they fixed the rewards this month where they don't count the tech recycling towards the ink recycling limit
I think the trick is to do your tech recycling first and then do your ink. Last month I did my ink first and got 1000 points and got nothing for my tech which I did 2nd. It apparently gave me 1000 on the first ink cartridge so even though I turned in 10 it only counted 9 toward my ink recycling limit. I had to turn in one more ink cartridge for a total of 11 to meet my ink recycling limit.

Your theory is false. I recycled both ink and tech in the same transaction and still missed 1 ink

Yes, that's what happened to me, same transaction and 1 ink cartridge was missed.

How does that make what they wrote false? They suggested that people recycle tech in a separate transaction BEFORE recycling the ink. You did them in the same transaction.

The assumption was that staples computer system mistakenly count 1 ink as tech.

This hypothesis is clearly false.

Your assumption is not exactly what I said. The bonus offer is for "1000 when you recycle tech, batteries and more". What I'm saying is that the bonus counts for whichever you recycle first, whether it be tech, printer ink, or something else, as covered by the "and more" in the offer. However, if you were to recycle just one ink cartridge first, I believe you would get the 1000 bonus, but it would NOT count toward your ink cartridge recycle limit and you would have essentially wasted an ink cartridge to get the bonus when you could have used a tech recycle to get the bonus. That's why I recommend recycling tech first before you do any ink recycling. Does that make sense?

But in my receipt, the tech item appears first in order. Why would you think the staple system would skip the 1st item in the receipt and what's the evidence?

I recycled some batteries today and earned 1000 points, no problem. The receipt included a $10 off $30 coupon that says "one day only" but also says valid 2/4/2024-12/31/2024. Can anyone confirm if these $10 off $30 coupons are valid for the entire year?

My tech item (batteries) also appeared first on my receipt but I had them ring up my ink first before I handed them my batteries. So in my case the receipt order is irrelevant because I know what they rung up first. I can't speak to what order your items were rung up but I never said anything was skipped in my transaction. However, my receipt shows 11 items in one transaction, but my rewards history only showed 1000 pt bonus and nine 100 pt ink cartridges instead of ten. So this shows that one of my ink cartridges was given the 1000 pts INSTEAD of the normal 100 pts for ink cartridge. This is why I could still get my remaining 100 points when I brought in an eleventh cartridge the next day, even though I had already turned in 10

It is still not a proof.

Did you also recycle in February and earn 1,000 points then too?

Anyone knows why each ink cartridge is only worth 100pts (like 50 cents), crazy Staples!!!

I recycled 10 inks and 1 earbuds on 02/29, and only get back 1900 pts, like $9!!!
