This is such a great console. The micro SD cards that ship with the units are really terrible and have to be replaced. Loaded with an aftermarket OS like garlic it will seamlessly play anything up to PS1. NES and SNES plays perfectly. You can get ROMs online easily without risk of viruses, Google "tiny best set" for a package of games curated specifically for this console.

Ordered the same unit from official seller (Anbernic) on Tiktok for $20 before taxes (some clip on coupon for new user). Signed up using Apple Hide My Email, will delete the account & the virtual email address once order is delivered.

It's only better in that it has more powerful processor and analog sticks. OS, and overall quality isn't better. Analog sticks on r36s are janky and exhibit drift early on as reported by lots of users, dpad kind of sucks and some of them have crappy face buttons. And even with a faster processor it can't really handle ps1 and lower games better nor does it really play dc ds or n64 really well. Not to mention that it's bigger and not as pocket friendly. With that said it's cheaper these days than the anbernic, right now about 30 on ali, and for first portable console it's not bad.

Different use cases? Uh no the steam deck can play any emulation these can so I don't see why you should pay 200$ for something that can only play ps2 games when you can pay 60$ more and play everything.

I understand getting the $30 or $40 model here for simple 2d games and such. That makes sense. The price and portability are good. I wouldn't suggest someone pay $200+ to play SNES emulators like you though.

Just get a steam deck

Also at what point do you just pay the Nintendo subscription on the switch and just get all those retro games the proper way anyway. They have GB, GBA, Genesis, NES, SNES and N64 on there

If all you want to play are Nintendo console games. Personally, I want to play arcade games.

I didn't pay $200 for an SNES emulator. I have a home brewed 2DS XL for that purpose.

Steam Deck is not really portable and is not Android based. It is simpler to get emulation running on Android in most cases.

Modern PC gaming and Retro console gaming are absolutely different use cases.

Enjoy holding a brick to play 16-bit games

Also, Steam Deck is not $260

Look, I love my Steam Deck but comparing this to that is absurd. The deck is 4x as heavy and 10x as large.

I bought one of these from ALi, It was about $43 shipped. I still have a modded 3ds, it plays 3ds games like a beast... I bought this to play the stacks of ROMS I've collected and take on a INTL. trip. If it goes missing I'm out a couple bucks.
I had a Steam deck when they came out, thought I was going to finally be able to play old Kirby 3ds gams on the tv. Nope. The audio drove me nuts.
I still have modded Wii's and a Wii U. Had a chipped PS1 back in the day.
All these consoles I have and still can't magane to bring myself to a decent PC to use my Steam Lib that's been collecting dust for years only to play 2 games on the Deck and sell that off 3 weeks after getting it. Might get one of the OLED ones though. Heck Ieven have a V1 switch, just never bothered to mod it.

Amazon has 'Every game ever made,' 3T, then 12T HDs. Steam can emulate up to Switch & its very easy.

The thing is that older games weren't made to save, so you keep playing from beginning.
