These might be school Chromebooks. At the end of 2022, very beginning of 2023, Lenovo had enough inventory for huge shipments of Chromebooks to US/Canada following the chip shortage. Schools gobbled up the shipments of these and a model from their Flex 5 series.

Allstate is hit or miss on how easy their warranty repair/replacement is.

VIP Outlet usually sells these for $175 - $200 w/ SSD via eBay

It appears to have an M.2 slot, however RAM is soldered.

Still happy with the purchase.
I'm hoping someone will have had success with it.
I tried several NVMe drives and one SATA and non worked.
There is a diagnostic built in to test storage, and it did not see the NVME drive. So, perhaps use of other than EMMc drives is crippled in bios.

I do not think there is a way to view or adjust bios on Chromebooks.

Brightness is Alt + Screen Brightness (f6+f7)
Color when you hit Alt + F6 or 7 a palette shows next to the KB brightness scale, click on that.

I don't have an answer for you, sorry, but I am also looking to see if we can successfully swap the drive. This is a great Chromebook for the price, mine came looking like new, too. I removed the cover (T5 screws?) to take a look at the removable MMC but haven't ordered a replacement drive due to reading that this was not possible to do (after I made the purchase).

Still happy with the purchase.
It maybe m.2 sata

I think all laptops have snaps. A plastic pry device starting near the back hinges and working forward did it for me.

I am running into an issue with Brave Browser installed in Chromes Penguin Linux. It freezes when I try to add any extension and is generally unstable. I am still trying to figure that out.

I received the Chromebook and am trying to replace the EMMc with an NVME SSD.

I am getting "Error recovering your device" when using an external USB recovery image that was made on this chromebook.

When I try "Internet Recovery", which theoretically should work on new Chromebooks, I get that the recovery partition is missing. I figured that would be in some chip, not the SSD.

Anyone know what could be the issue. I have tried a couple of different compatible M.2 NVME SSDs with the same error.

Side Note: it is in great condition, looks new.
Mine just arrived, also in great condition, with 9 battery charge cycles. I also was planning on replacing with an NVME drive and encountered the same issue you did. Some Googling has led me to this thread on Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos...c_storage/

This is a specific post relating to the SKU's for drives that *SHOULD* be compatible:

Thanks for this. It does prove the issue is real.
I have not seen any confirmation yet that any of the NVMe drives have worked.

Update: This thread linked in your 1st thread [reddit.com] shows a way to do it involving using a separate linux laptop and making a SuzyQ debug cable. The guy who did it says the difference is not particularly noticeable in normal use.

I own and tried the 512GB version of the Lenovo SAMSUNG PM9B1 256G 2242 PCIe G4V x4 recommended in this link as compatible. It did not work.

I did end up seeing that as I read further down the rabbit hole that user went. I figure I'm already into it this far the least I can do is try to put their hard work to good use. I'm mostly just wanting to be able to replace the storage drive in the future, I do realize I won't see much in the way of performance improvement. I believe THIS [ebay.com] person has made some very reasonably priced PCBs with the correct resistors built in and I think I am going to give it a shot.

Looks like fun. Thanks

Add: I was having stability problems with Brave Browser Linux. Switching to the Brave Beta release rather than Stable solved the issues.

Ah well hopefully they figure it out eventually, i only care in that it will make sense only far down the line when the drives cost nothing.

It's fast enough stock for productivity.

Is there a good way to make it into an easy to use jukebox for music off the SD card?

I don't think they are from school, would be beaten bloody and the models only been out a year.

My battery only has one cycle to boot.

I hearted the device. Do you know if it regularly goes in stock or how I can get notified of when it does go into stock?

I can report that the SuzyQ device linked above and the instructions you referenced earlier worked for me.

I had a 512GB 1042 Samsung and it worked fine.

The instructions were not exactly right on mine, I did not have Sudo access using Crosh so had to use the VT-2 shell as discussed here [superuser.com].

It took me 4 tries to "Open the CCD". This is not for the faint of heart. But if possible bricking does not scare you and you have some LInux experience it does work.

It feels like the speed has increased a good bit. I'm not sure because it was quite quick anyway.

I did end up purchasing the SuzyQ adapter as well. The VT-2 shell is relatively new as a requirement for sudo to work and hasn't been addressed in MrChromebox's wiki. I have a working 256GB nvme in mine now. I had no issues with the instructions beyond the obvious VT-2 shell requirement.

My question now is there a way to return everything that was changed to disable write protection back to the way it was before? I have tried to search for this but I honestly can't find much of anything.
