I bought my original RP setup in 2018 from Paducah Home Theater, much respect to Cory, Steven (Scrappy Doo) and Team. I think they are experts when it comes to Klipsch.

That being said, the only way to convince someone to buy the next and newest model is to provide reasons why it is better than the old. My understanding is that Reference Premier is several steps ahead of standard Reference. However, I've listened to Reference Premier Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 and I cannot tell the difference other than the appearance has changed, I cannot tell the sonic difference between a vented tweeter and a non-vented tweeter. Those with super sonic hearing, I'm sure can tell the difference, but honestly you will be paying 30-50% more for only a 5% gain, it's not worth to me personally. Price being equal, yes buy the Gen 3 always, but paying that much more for only a minor gain doesn't seem worth it.
everyone with a camera is a pro these days.
nonetheless, gen 2 is better.
I've listened to all three also and I would agree, the difference was subtle at best.

Placement would probably make a bigger difference.

If there was an issue(s) it's either still there or never there.

Might have to check, but I think the 8000Fs replaced the 280Fs.

If you search online through audio forums you can find specifics, but iirc midrange on the first gen was weak. So they redesigned some parts for thr second gen

It's only been slightly cheaper on Amazon according to a Slickdeals search. It looks like mid last year is was around $265. The unique features this model has over the original generation of Atmos Reference Premier are:
  • Vented Tweeter
  • 5" woofer vs. old had 4"
  • Crossover switch that lets you set the speaker to Atmos (higher crossover freq.) or Surround (lower crossover freq.)
All of these speakers in the ad are second generation of Reference Premier, the newest generation is third gen Reference Premier.

First Gen - RP-140SA Elevation Speaker
Second Gen - RP-500SA
Third Gen - RP-500SA II

The big thing between first and second gen was adding a vented tweeter to reduce the supposed 'harshness', I have all first gen and I love them. Was thinking to grab the RP-500SA so I can have 4 Atmos speakers.

The Pros say Gen 2 is much better.
