If you mean the dark night+ rosewood, I have it and it's one of the most beautiful guitars produced today. Many many compliments. I mean probably 2 dozen people at least have told me it's incredible. In person it's a nice metallic flake and awesome gradient. The focus doesn't go to the neck color anyway because the body is draws so much attention. Some people want maple due to feel, but I don't like a glossy neck and have always preferred rosewood. A neck shouldn't be purchased on its looks alone, but it's playability, shape, and feel instead. I wouldn't get down on someone who prefers maple, but I'd be surprised if you are in the majority if you think it's not a kick ass color of a guitar.
All I can say is wow!! When I saw this deal come up last night I immediately pulled the trigger. I saw the SSS rosewood dark night too late in Jan, and then I passed on the SSS maple dark night (not for me). I really debated the SSS rosewood 3 color burst, but deep down I really wanted an HSS. The dark night rosewood HSS really goes well together as a total package for me!! Can't wait for it to show up!!

If it makes you feel any better, I had the same debate. I played both in the store for a good hour and the difference was pretty minor both under distortion and clean. There was maybe a bit more grunt on the HSS, but the SSS had a bit more glass bottle to it. Both sounded great for blues and some heavy distortion. Played through a hot rod D IV. Don't think you cn go wrong either way.
Yah, looks like dark night has ben a fail in maple/rose both SSS and HSS. BOGO deal likely happening soon. About 40% of Adorama's current Fender Open-Box are these getting returned.
Can anyone explain difference between HSS and the non HSS version for a newbie?
HSS = humbucker / single coil /single coil pickup. Most strats are traditionally SSS which is 3x single coils. These are just different types of pickups...

I have it as well and it's the first guitar I believe I will never get rid of. It really seems $1000 is the sweet spot for exceptional instruments. I noticed the same when comparing my entry Casio to my Kawai piano. Can't speak highly enough.

Dark Night OOS, but other two are still available. (Honestly, I think Dark Night is one of the coolest finishes Fender has ever put out— don't know why folks are hating on it)
I like the color as I don't like anything too flashy. I bought their "player version" (Made in Mexico for $599) that I play daily and I wish I would have held out for this. That's a beautiful color to me.

Adding it in HSS was a bonus as it usually costs more for this version.
Anyway, mine is now on the way...

It's been run pretty frequently lately on Adorama and some people may not like the slightly bigger neck.
