I have these and the internal temp reading is pretty good, but the ambient temp part of it is way off, like 20-30 degrees. After speaking with support, they initially started with, "oh it's reading near the meat," which changed after I said I used a different ambient probe right next to where this was and a laser temp reader. In their tests it was a known thing, but apparently not something they found they needed to fix before going to production. Just be warned that if you need an accurate ambient temp that these may have that flaw.

by ambient temp, do you mean temp inside grill or oven when closed? if so, for me, it's a smaller issue, as long as probe for the actual internal is accurate and it sends out alerts...

Ambient temperature refers to the air in the cooking chamber so the air around the protein. The black part, which is the handle on the probe is where the ambient temperature gets read from. I paid for a product that advertised that you get both internal temperature readings and ambient temperature readings, the latter is not being delivered.

understood, trying to clarify what you meant that's all. it could be very useful to confirm if your even at 350f actually is at 350f

Right, let's say I don't have complete trust in my smoker's temp. If I'm using this to read the IT, why should I have to get another device to read the AT

I have a Masterbuilt 800 and it has electronic temp control, but I noticed that the ambient temp is different on the grill's reader and the chef iq
