Lots of negative reviews on Amazon for the burr grinder. Anyone here would recommend for or against this model?

I've had the glass version for 4 years, looks about the same otherwise. Use it daily for French press. It works well for me, but I'm not picky. Generates static but I let it sit a few minutes. It started taking a long time to grind after 3 years, bought a replacement burr set from Amazon and it was like new again.

As a user of the larger 'glass catcher' version for probably ten years, it gets the job done, everyone who visits my house says they enjoy my coffee. I actually use two of these Bodum grinders, one for regular morning coffee (black) and a second for afternoon coffee (red). My red one is 10+ years old, I've replaced the top burr on it once, but the timing circuit broke a couple weeks ago so I rewired it to run when you hold down a doorbell button sticking through the power button hole. You can get one of those for a decent price in this sale as well. https://www.bodum.com/us/en/10903-04us-3-bistro I have no experience with the smaller one, but based on other reviews I would not recommend it.

I used the Bodum burr grinder about a year and recommend against it. It seemed to grind ok but the outside plastic on the black matte finish got sticky and gross after 1 year. I got a deal on the Oxo conical grinder and while it is taller/bigger, it is otherwise better in every way. It still looks like a nice kitchen appliance, grinds a little quicker, not as loud (but it's still loud). I think most recent deals are around $68-70 for the Oxo and it's definitely worth the extra $35. I have been using the Oxo 2x/day now for 4 years.

I ended up bringing in the Bodum to the office to share with my colleagues. Not sure how often it was used but it did end up breaking after another year. Then someone brought in the same Oxo I have... still going strong.

edit: just realized mine was NOT the one here but the glass catcher one mentioned in comment above.

Bought and returned the burr grinder a few months ago. I spent more time clearing clogs than actually grinding beans.

I've been using this grinder for a couple years. It's messy, if you let the coffee grounds get so high they touch the top of the grounds jar, you will be cleaning it out a bunch. This is a great affordable burr grinder. This price is good.

Mine has static as well not this brand tho. What causes that?

So I have the more expensive version, 'Electric coffee grinder with glass catcher' which is $90 before the 10% off. Purchased it 4 years ago for approx $60, and use it almost every day. I brew mostly French press.

The model on sale for $36 looks very similar internally. Negatives:
1. messy (even when reducing static with water mist) - I have to tap before taking the glass out to get the remains so they don't go over the counter
2. Loud
3. Not great for espresso grind

It's a fantastic entry level grinder that has lasted a long time for me. Honestly, I wish it'd break because I want to buy an Encore grinder. But since I have a perfectly good working burr grinder, hard to justify replacing.

At this price point go with manual grinders. I have the Montwave GU2 for $20 and it's all metal construction. It takes less than 30 seconds to manual grind.

This guy didn't need to write a whole science paper on this…

Increased humidity reduces static electricity/shock. This is why we get more static shocks in the winter when the air is dry and the charged particles can move freely.
