If you are already a AAA member with a higher level plan, you will need to call AAA and pay the difference. No way to pay the difference online. Happened to me on a breakdown and I had no idea. Paid them over the phone and they ordered the tow. Their phone app and regional logins suck ass.
If you are a new customer, there is a 2-3 full day wait period before AAA takes effect.
Know the distance you might expect to be towed. I had to upgrade the service package long ago do to living further way from job sites. Makes all the difference.
You can add a second household name to the account. Each of you gets three freebies over a one year period; tow, gas delivery, lockout, etc.
WARNING: AAA wait times for a tow average a minimum of TWO HOURS. Most of the time it's longer. I've been through this and so has my niece, bought her a plan. Both of us in the last two years have had 5 calls for tows. Read reviews on the tow trucks AAA contracts out. Everyone complains about the outright lies that AAA gives customers on wait times. "A tow truck has been notified and should be there in 30-45 minutes". Well AAA never calls you back and the tow truck operators go to the most lucrative jobs first. They will dump AAA calls and claim you were not at the location. It's insane. Yea, you can pay your insurance company for towing insurance too, but they deal with the same towing companies.
3 weeks ago I navigated to their website to cancel, was instructed to call a number.
I was on hold for 35 minutes before abandoning the call.
Am currently disputing the renewal charge with my CC.
edit: just read the post above me. maybe if it's possible, using a virtual credit card has a backup payment method will be helpful here. some retailers block them though
