This is actually pretty good deal for a unit that rarely goes on sale. Its a really good stealthy gaming laptop. High wattage and beefy cooling system. Unfortunately this is not the coveted OLED model. If you want powerful desktop grade cpu performance with some gaming chops in a relatively light and thin package, this is hard to beat.

For a laptop that is on "deal" for $1300, a touchpad that sucks is simply inexcusable. There is simply no way around it.
Also, remember, new versions of OS are all relying upon AI and newer CPUs are all coming with dedicated AI/Neural Engine. Intel's 14th gen (core ultra) and AMD's 8th gen onwards are the first of such batch of processors. You will see a ton of deals of 13th Gen and older intels (7th gen and old AMDs) because of this. These machines are already obsolete as of now so unless you really need a new lappy, I would recommend waiting it out.
The NPUs in the 14th gen Intel chips are gimmicky. That doesn't mean in the future NPUs won't become important, but right now AI is going to utilize your GPU mostly and your CPU. I'm not holding out for a more expensive machine with a Meteorlake processor and machines without an NPU aren't going to be obsolete for a bit.

I have the fancier OLED model and the battery life is short, surprisingly short actually. 2+ hours just browsing the web or watching YouTube. I also cannot get the 13980HX to score as high on Cinebench R23 as other 13900 / 13950 / 13980HX on gaming laptops but that's probably expected

Is this laptop quiet in a classroom under normal load (bunch of browser tabs, Microsoft 365 apps open, few more things?)
Mine had a horrible coil whine that came from the two fans. It was so loud and bad I returned it within a few hours of delivery. You can adjust the fans to a whisper mode. The case is pretty cheap feeling too. I'd stay away from it.

That's really interesting to hear! I currently have the Zenbook 14X and it feels amazing! Just not a huge fan of the 120hz and 16GB soldered DIMM.

I have the OLED model and I want to point out the numpad on this. It's slightly different than normal and may bother some people a lot

I'm in between getting this or the zephyrus m16. Anyone know if this machine is any better for gaming? Both gpu's are 4070 8gb. Then you have 13900h vs 13980hx. Both have 240hz displays

This one is designed to be a creator laptop with NVIDIA studio drivers (you can still choose game ready drivers if preferred). The processor is definitely better on paper for this model but real-world performance changes for every single laptop model based on power consumption and cooling. I would tell you the Zephyrus will be better if your main concern is gaming.

The M425R2GA3BB0-CQKOD memory I ordered from OEMPCWORLD was delivered as the M425R2GA3BB0-CQKOL variant but unfortunately the Vivobook won't post with it even as the only memory in bank A.

Successfully upgraded to 32GB with a Crucial DDR5-5200 single module. Wouldn't boot with both banks filled but I'm fine with 32 total for this laptop.

You mean "How"? I'd guess via a bunch of jumping thorough hoops, or it was a mistake in pricing plus added a bunch of rewards, etc. There is no $100 14X deal, so obviously this person's "deal" is a unicorn.

The M16 is a better all around computer that's pretty great. I'd stay away from this one like the plague. I hated mine.
