This is actually pretty good deal for a unit that rarely goes on sale. Its a really good stealthy gaming laptop. High wattage and beefy cooling system. Unfortunately this is not the coveted OLED model. If you want powerful desktop grade cpu performance with some gaming chops in a relatively light and thin package, this is hard to beat.

I just got my open box excellent ASUS Zephyrus M16 delivered today from the Best Buy deal. This one has a better processor and an Ethernet port. It seems like this is the better machine. Is this correct?

Looks like the older model with the track pad centered under your left hand.

There is an empty slot so you can add a 16GB stick to get 32GB in dual channel.

Please look at the thermals before buying this. This is not a gaming laptop.

I had the OLED model of this. Gaming performance was surprisingly good and fan noise wasn't too bad. I didn't like the poor battery life, surface material finger print magnet, and the body feels kinda cheap

This is YMMV for sure, but I got Best Buy to price match this for this deal to their OLED model.

At quick glance this has a much better processor, 13900H vs 13980HX and a better video card 4060 vs 4070. Don't know if you'd need the jump up in processing power. The one at Microcenter does not have an OLED screen. I am sure there's more as well.

Is this laptop quiet in a classroom under normal load (bunch of browser tabs, Microsoft 365 apps open, few more things?)

Picked up one yesterday from Microcenter. First one was DOA after installing memory before bootinig up so I exchanged it immediately.

TDP is 140

16GB Crucial DDR5-4800 wouldn't boot so I ordered an identical Samsung

Fans come on randomly while running developer builds with Kubernetes/Docker but it wasn't too loud.

Touchpad sucks and I hope it can be configured because different zones have different actions and it constantly interferes.

I wish the keyboard was full size and didn't have a squished numpad

For a laptop that is on "deal" for $1300, a touchpad that sucks is simply inexcusable. There is simply no way around it.
Also, remember, new versions of OS are all relying upon AI and newer CPUs are all coming with dedicated AI/Neural Engine. Intel's 14th gen (core ultra) and AMD's 8th gen onwards are the first of such batch of processors. You will see a ton of deals of 13th Gen and older intels (7th gen and old AMDs) because of this. These machines are already obsolete as of now so unless you really need a new lappy, I would recommend waiting it out.
