It's not necessarily a question of one or the other. It depends on your use case.

If your intention is backup power for your house, a battery/inverter setup will get you through X amount of time (depending on your use and your total capacity), and then a generator like this could be used to top off the battery as needed. Run silent on battery @ night, then top off again during the day (if you don't have solar, or if it's cloudy).

Edit: As for country of origin... it's kind of hard to find, but GeneratorBible indicates Thailand: https://generatorbible.com/genera...a/eu2200i/

Dang, that's a better price than the HD deal.

Tempted to return my HD purchase for this once since I haven't opened the box yet.

$200 lower, in fact.. I'd had it open @ Home Depot for DAYS but decided I've got enough backup power between two Firman inverter generators. $799 makes me want to 'upgrade' the smaller one.

One caveat on this Honda is that it doesn't have 12V DC output anymore like its predecessor did.

But as shared in the other HD thread, the CO sensor can simply be unplugged if it fails so it's not really a long-term reliability concern.

Nice and quiet and starts easier than most…runs a long time on a small tank to boot'. Buy two and run in parallel for 4000 watts @$1,600

I don't recall a lower price?!

My thoughts exactly. I do this when we lose power. I'm paranoid that someone will steal my gas generator at night, so the battery power station gets used at night.

Wow, that is quite the step up in price/weight - 144 pounds... that's ~50 pounds heavier than my 3300W dual fuel inverter unit.

Not on this one.. its predecessor which got discontinued was apparently closed out @ $599 but this is the cheapest any Honda generator's been in years.

All Eu2200i's are made in Thailand. The first several years of EU2000i were made in Japan, but the later years were also Thailand made.

I installed the propane kit on mine. It's pricy though!
