Got this late last year when it was $10 cheaper and very happy with it so far. Installed in a large, older house that's single zone but has dampered returns in every room. With the remote sensors, it makes it easy for me to balance airflow to keep temps balanced across the house. Only thing that's not as advertised for me was the remote speaker functionality - maybe it would be OK for listening to a podcast or something, but it's no louder than my phone's speaker and sound quality is meh.

Also a shoutout to their support, who helped me diagnose an installation issue on Thanksgiving day via pictures and step-by-step troubleshooting. I'd recommend this unit to anyone, and I am blown away at how much better this is vs. the Lennox smart thermostat in our other home that cost $2k when we installed with a new heat pump.

I recently went from nest to ecobee. Ecobee allows a lot more configuration with the sensors. Nest is very rigid (you just choose a sensor to use as the setpoint instead of the thermostat itself, and it doesn't give you even fine-grained times so much as 'overight', 'morning', 'evening' blocks of time). Ecobee sensors will detect presence in the areas and determine which group of sensors to use at a given time. If no one is in the room, it is not used in the temperature determination. It's a bit more setup, but a lot more flexibility. I am mostly happy with the change. I find the only area where nest was better than ecobee for me is the home/away features.

I went from Nest to this Ecobee. With the Nest I was constantly changing the temperature up and down.. up and down. Once I moved to Ecobee and adjusted setting over a week or two- I don't need to adjust it anymore. It's away at the right temperature and my electricity bill has even gone down. I am never going back to the nest.

The user interface on ecobee thermostats is terrible. Instead of being intuitive and user friendly, it's more like a tiny tablet on the wall with some text being so small that you can't even read it. A poorly designed thermostat in my opinion. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. I replaced it with a Google thermostat which I don't have a single complaint about.

I've considered switching for the sole purpose that nest does not support setting the humidifier humidity level by outdoor temp. So I'm constantly changing the percentage in the app as the weather changes

Love my ecobee3. I got it in 2017 on clearance at Home Depot for $49 and 2 additional sensors for $15. One of my better scores! I've been looking for more sensors to put in other rooms for quick temp checks - I'd love to find the ones I have (1st gen?), but can only find the new style. I'm not paying more than $10-$20 for them and I'd be happy to buy someone's used sensors from an older/upgraded ecobee.

I like ecobee more than Nest when it works. My ecobee 4 constantly drops wifi after they updated the UI. Support tells me it's my wifi, but none of my other electronics or IoT switches have issues. But I will give this a try and if I have issues will just return to Costco.

Yes, originally I had both for different zones in a house. Ecobee was always better. Better connectivity, more advanced settings, easier controls.

Nest was ok, but really I found Ecobee to be the superior product. Ended up switching out to all Ecobee after that 6mo trial of both.

Also, Nest (Google product), is a bit invasive / sketchy. Random intervals at night I saw some network traffic coming from the unit. Not sure why, but I didn't like that.

The sensors are expensive. This is a good deal.

I think they were like 60 bucks each and I refuse as much as I want another sensor.

The ecobee is the best smart thermostat hands down. I spent some time setting up lot of ranges for each period but it really is smart and control the temperature quite well for the whole house.

You can also control the thermostat from their website also.

As long as you have a "sleep" mode set you should be able to turn this off. You need to access this setting on the thermostat itself (not the app).

• ⁠Main Menu > Settings Gear Icon> Preferences
• ⁠Expand Screen Brightness
• ⁠Select the checkbox for "Screen sleeps when I sleep"

You can also set the default brightness and how long the screen stays on for.

Same here. Our heat is gas which is a separate company from electric. I can get discounted tstats from both, I believe the limit is 3 per account per calendar year. I have 6 zones which is how I know this laugh out loud

I'm not familiar with your system, but my HVAC is a high efficiency variable speed system (vs standard 2-stage). Last I checked, Ecobee doesn't support variable speed but I could drop the extra efficiency of variable speed for multi-stage functionality (which I'm considering given I love the SmartThermostat Premium I have at our lake house). That will require some wiring mods in the air handler.
