I just cut the top off a 2 liter soda bottle. Works great for oil fills.

I think the assumption here is that this is an item commonly found around the home and disposed of without consideration for alternate use cases -- in other words, free and hence the suggestion.

I just take a piece of used paper or two… roll it into a funnel shape and throw out the paper.

I make disposable paper funnels for some purposes too, but that only works for smaller amounts of some liquids that don't contain water such as adding 1 quart of oil to my car, or using it for light materials like flour. I need a stronger waterproof funnel like this which won't easily bend under heavier weight when I'm refilling 5 gallon screw-top water bottles with rice or beans for long term waterproof/bugproof bulk storage, as well as filling jugs with water, filling large storage bottles with BBQ sauces or honey, etc, because paper would disolve or just collapse under that much weight of those products. These funnels definitely work for more purposes than a paper funnel will, you can cut the bottom off the spout to increase the diameter of the opening for different applications, and for only $1/ea I bought a few more. Sure, Dollar Store may have these too, but Amazon is free shipping (I have Prime) so I don't have to go to the store, just open my front door tomorrow and there they are!
