I bought the "Jamo Studio Series S 803 Home Cinema System" a year ago, and I completely disagree. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I like higher quality sound than a simple soundbar or something. The Jamo system fit the bill perfectly for me. So this is going to come down to personal tastes.
acheive true dolby/dts5.1 for pc games and movies on the cheap!
-grab this Jamo 5.1 pack
-grab a good looking 5.1 receiver with optical out on craigslist for 50 bucks (seeing about 8 in my area)
-and then watch THIS video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyoxO8T3L8g

(note that you need a receiver with this pack, it's not powered like a logitech)

Normally there's no way to get true dolby/dts with an optical out you'll be stuck with 2.0 sound, this man shows you how to get your windows true 5.1 output for all games and movies anything using dolby or dts using your motherboard's optical out! this also works via gpu hdmi to your tv and optical out from tv to receiver! (usually works with consoles)

also with this setup you can watch all youtube videos in full surround sound by sending windows' stereo signal to the receiver for upsampling which is life changing

any questions , you can ask me or the guy who does the video, he loves helping people out with this.

otherwise you need to drop $300-$400 on a denon s760h or something and use hdmi directly with passthrough or direct to tv with ARC out

with this deal you can be in another world of sound for $150

you don't need hdmi audio for true dolby/dts!
all need is a free (APO driver) and the know how to get it installed, takes 5 minutes, people have struggled with this for decades...
Got this the last time it came up on sale a few months ago. Use it in the main living room and it's been a big improvement over the cheap Hisense tv speakers. Definitely not worth the advertised $400, but I also don't know much about this market in terms of what's best bang for buck. $100 well spent from my perspective. Wiring wasn't a big deal to me but would be an obvious barrier for some.

In home theater, there are no true wireless speakers. Either need power from AV receiver, or power from the wall.

Thanks for that! Do wires typically come with the system or do I need to go to Home Depot/Lowes and pick something up? Another commenter mentioned using copper wire so I'm guessing I'd need to purchase my own. Sound right?

How would it sound if I hooked up the karaoke system?

The same as it would hooked up to any receiver, depending on the quality of the receiver.

Are Jamo speakers made by Klipsch?
they're out of Denmark, started in 68. Klipsch bought them, other than that they're totally different. they both are thought to have have a bit of a V shaped frequency response so some people think Klipsch is behind this but they're not. Totally different materials. I get bothered by Klipsch's brightness but not Jamo's for what ever reason.

I y'all had to buy a two speaker setup for a computer, what would it be? Sorta middle ground financially. Thanks for your reply!

There are always use cases for these but for most people, a set of Sony SSC5's and a Dayton 12" sub could be had for around $300 and get you vastly improved sound especially if you're in a decent size room. Obviously that's also 3 times the price of this set so again, there is still certainly a use case here.

I have the Edifier R1280DBs set on my desk and it's fantastic for that purpose.

An alternative is to purchase a OREI eARC 4K 60Hz Audio Extractor [amazon.com]. This device enables you to extract True HD audio from an HDMI signal and makes that audio compatible with receivers that don't support eARC or 4k video.

I use the audio OREI extractor to share a HDMI signal between one of my extra monitors and a 5.1 sound bar. The benefit of this is that the audio signal is 24bit 48000Hz; the highest quality my video card can output.

If you want to get true Audiophile pretentious and ridiculous territory; you can play all your music via Xmplay [un4seen.com] and select ASIO as your sound output; you need to install ASIO4ALL [asio4all.org] first though. IMO that Xmplay setup is the highest quality audio you can have for PC while listening to music.

I also have another OREI audio extractor that I use with an old Yamaha RX-V765 Receiver that doesn't support eARC or 4k video. This enables old receivers to get true Dolby HD lossless audio. Without the OREI the RX-V765 Receiver would be limited to lossy Dolby Digital Plus via ARC and very lossy Dolby Digital via optical.

Perhaps all that info/crap does not pertain to you though. Honestly I just wanted a chance to talk about the OREI HDA-927 as it can be incredibly useful to old receivers and bring some new life to them. They average around $50 new but with some luck and patience you can score one for around $20 used on Ebay [ebay.com] (Best offer is your friend)...

Does this need an AVR?
Thanks. Was wondering the same.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good budget AVR in 2024?

I had a Yamaha for a long time (came in a box with speakers and sub) but it finally bit the dust last year.

I had this kit (this has to be the updated version) until the receiver died. For the $299 I spent in 2012, it was pretty good. Does anyone know if this kit is still any good for the money?

What would be a good way to mount them? Planning to add them to the 2nd floor game room. I do have access to the ceiling from the attic above for the most part, but these look like they are better off being mounted on vertical walls if I'm not mistaken?

Anyone know how these compare to Monoprice's 100 dollar 5.1 system in terms of real world use?

Wondering the same. Moving soon and I'll probably move my massive Yamaha and BIC Atmos system into the basement and then install something much smaller like this in the living room. Curious about the best bang for the buck for that. Prefer to still have something with separate sub and satellites.
