I believe the XRJ04 is brushed. The XRJ05 is brushless.
You can tell by the black circle near the handle which holds the brushes.

If you are not in a rush, may be worth it to watch the 3 humped mammals for price fluctuations. I got the XRJ07ZB for $83 "used - like new" but it happened to be new.
It's quite expensive at the moment, but deals will come back. Peace

In the item description under specification, clearly shows brushed. However title shows Brushless. Just be aware!

Also none of the pictures shows "brushless" on the tool

Did some more digging and comparing photos/specs with the manufacturer and this does appear to be a brushed motor and not brushless! Thank y'all for pointing that out! Looks like the seller lists it as "brushless" a few times but according to the Manufacturer's website, the XRJ04Z-R is brushed [makitatools.com], while the XRJ05Z is brushless [makitatools.com]. Updated OP to reflect!

The cost analysis probably depends on how much risk you want to add to your calculations in the event you get caught and have to post bail. Wink

Can you link to which model you're talking about? Will the 1 hand cut through a 4x4?

I have the single battery brushless. It will cut through a 4x4 without issue.
