I see there's a 90-day warranty from them via NewEgg. Whereas if you buy via ebay from them, there's a 5-year warranty for a few bucks more.

For those who are interested: BackBlaze (excellent remote backup company) publishes regular statistical reports on the reliability of drives they have in service. Because they often have thousands of a given hard drive model in service, often for years, it's probably the most realistic set of data on HDD brand/model reliability available anywhere.

Western Digital's failure rates are astoundingly low.

Because enterprise generally will last a LOT longer, even used. They are designed to work in data centers where they are always running. Those of us who run arrays dont have them spinning 24/7. They are powered down into a low-power state, when not in use. If a file is accessed, it spins up, 5-10 minutes later it spins down to idle again. I still have used enterprise drives of 2TB I bought on ebay for $25-35 each 10-12 years ago still going without a single failure, lol.

Correct. I just purchased 2x of the 14tb model of this from the previous thread and it comes with 5 year warranty included on the invoice from GoHardDrive. Newegg's 90-day is a separate thing that you probably wouldn't want to use since GoHardDrive probably ships your replacement faster anyways.

I got the Seagate Enterprise 12TB one from GoHardDrive on ebay for $82 with 3 years warranty. A 5 year old enterprise drive may last as long as, or longer than, a new desktop drive. 5 years has only 43,830 hours. An enterprise HDD typically has 2,500,000hr MTBF (vs 500,000 to 1,000,000 for desktop drive). In any case, these drives should be used in redundant array plus additional back up. Note that RAID does not eliminate the need of backup unless you are using RAID10. Indeed, I am using RAID10 in my primary NAS and has another NAS in a different location as backup.

I buy used drives all the time and used them in RAID 5 or RAID 6 configurations for redundancy. Haven't had a single one fail yet. My favorite go to is ServerPartDeals and they do have warranty even for used drives. Not sure why your'e so scared about used hard drives. lmao.

This comment just shows that you have zero experience in buying refurbished drives. As long as you have an array and perform regular backups, you have nothing to worry about.

RAID is not a backup, not even a RAID10. Raid does not protect from accidental deletion or corruption. Bad advice unless you are pulling mirrors out of rotation.

My refurbished HGST 3GB and 4GB drives have run in Unraid for nearly a decade now. Finally replacing with higher sizes. At $35 a drive, they were a bargain.
