It definitely isn't for everyone especially at this price point but for my needs it is pretty much perfect. There are pros and cons and it may not be the device for you.

To answer some questions:

- Yes you are required to own a PS5 to use this.
- No you do not need to be on the same network as the PS5.
- It does work over the internet back to your PS5 at home which I have done. (Recommend you hardwire your PS5 though)
- It serves no other function than playing your PS5 on a mobile device.
- It does not have Bluetooth.
- it has a standard headphone jack.
- If you want wireless headphones you have to purchase Sony's "Pulse Explore" headphones.
- The controller functions just as a standard PS5 controller with all the features. (Trackpad is a soft button using the touchscreen)
- It cannot connect to WiFi that requires a captive portal as there is no built-in browser to accept terms etc…

As a side note:
I own both a Backbone and this. They each have their pros and cons. The Backbone was by no means a bad setup. I loved it. I just didn't prefer the smaller screen I was using and the layout of the buttons compared to a standard PS5 controller. The Backbone using a phone did have the big advantage of being able to connect to any type of WiFi and some of the concerns people have about having to remove their case to use it didn't apply to me because I just dedicated one of my old phones sitting around to this.

One other thing is that they do make the PS Remote Play app for the iPad and you can use a Bluetooth controller with it so that could be an option for those who already own an iPad and want a bigger screen than this.

At the end of the day it's not for everyone and there are other options out there like installing Chiaki on a hacked Switch or a Steam Deck. That app can allow you to do PS5 Remote Play on your existing mobile gaming device. For the Switch you of course need one that's running custom firmware though. So that is a potential issue for some.

I was eager to get one of these but then I learned it doesn't smoothly handle multiple profiles. That's a killer for me so I'll go for a more expensive steam deck like device.

I was just referring to the guy who said he picked one up for $149 at Walmart. I have one already that I got at the normal retail price. I personally have never seen them on sale and considering that these only came out in November of 2023, I'm surprised there would be any sale that soon especially since they have been out of stock for awhile. So I'm not sure what Walmart was doing unless he was referring to some deal where they did a $50 cash back thing or gift card.

Had one since release. It definitely has its use. I found it very useful backlogged games while watching a movie with the wife on the couch, ps5 downstairs and us upstairs. Can't play competitively with games such as COD though…you'll get destroyed. Perfect for story, slow paced games. That said, I've only put in less than 20 hours with it and it's been sitting on my shelf since.

Are you referring to the rumors regarding Sony's new portable gaming system that was dubbed the Q-Lite? It got hyped up by some assuming it was going to be some new portable gaming system just like a new PSP. If that's what you're referring to then that is actually this. This is the device that people were all hyped about thinking it was going to be some new version of the PSP and it's certainly not that. It's literally just for streaming your PS5 to via the Remote Play feature.

I would definitely buy a new PSP if they released one but I can't find anything indicating they are actually working on one. If someone is aware of one in production please share a link. I'd be interested.

Or was this comment a joke that just went over my head? lol. That is entirely possible as well. Smilie

All that said, this thing has completely changed gaming for me. Father of 2 that works 50 hours a week cannot sit in front of the basement TV for more than 5 mins. I can now play all over the place.

Test it out yourself, backbone (ps edition only) uses your phone and will be more versatile, you can use it for any app on your phone like emulators, xbox/ps4/5 remoteplay, android games etc. The portal is really specific to ps5 and may not work well while hotspotted or on crappy wifi out side of you home network

This comment is spot on. This is almost exactly my situation and why I bought it. I do seem to use mine (or at least the Backbone prior to buying this) more than you do but I use it for almost the same purposes.

My PS5 is hooked to the living room TV because it's the nicest TV in the house and I like playing my PS5 on it. The issue is that not everyone in the house wants to sit and watch me play it while they are awake. I do most of my gaming after the wife and kids go to bed.

I use this so that she can watch TV and we can sit together on the couch and I play the PS5 while something else is on the TV. When she goes to bed, I turn off the Portal and switch to the TV.

It's also nice to be able to have it sitting in my home office upstairs so when I take breaks I can just hop on it, play a game for a bit and then get back to work.

I do use it remotely as well. My daughter dances so when I take her to the studio for dance practice I take this with me when I'm sitting in the car waiting for her to be done. I hop on a local free WiFi and play my PS5 that's sitting at home.

There is absolutely delay issues here and there especially when you are playing over the internet remotely. I would never try to use this to play COD remotely. You would likely get destroyed. I do however play Diablo IV which works flawlessly in my house. I never notice any delay while at home. I do see some delay while remote over the internet though.

I have a setup that some don't have the luxury of having though so that could be part of my success with regard to remote play over the internet. I do have 1Gbps fiber internet circuit at my house which is symmetrical 1gig up and 1gig down. The 1gig upload available to me likely contributes greatly to my ability to play remotely when I'm away from home. Sure I'm limited by that remote WiFi connections speed as well as many other routing variables but for the most part it usually works great for me. My PS5 is hardwired which is also not an option for some.

I get that people have a hard time getting over the price point for what this thing does and I completely understand the points people make about how you can do this cheaper just using other setups. I get that and if that's the case then this device just isn't for you and that's perfectly fine. For some of us, the price point isn't really a concern and it fits our needs. I'll never understand the comments hating so much on people who buy things like this just because that person doesn't see the value. Each person has their own set of requirements for things in order to fulfill their needs. This thing checks most of those boxes for me and $200 is a reasonable price for me to fill those needs. If you "can't see yourself spending that much on this" or "can do this same thing on my exiting device" then by all means do it. I would encourage that. I even posted comments telling people how. I'm not sure if people just feel like it makes them look cool to brag about how this thing is crap because of [insert reason here]. If it's not for you and doesn't fit your needs then cool. It's not for you so feel free to either not buy it or use another solution. Some comments are just people saying it's not for them and listing reasons why which is helpful because it gives other people more real world information that could assist them in determining how useful it could be to them in real world scenarios but some people comment just to talk crap and I see no value in that.

A lot of the tail end of this comment has nothing to do with the comment I'm replying to. lol. Sorry about that but just felt like mentioning it.

If anyone doesn't see the value in this device, see some of my other comments for possible alternatives that you may enjoy.

The ps5 needs to be on while using this. My question is if this hs the capability to turn the system in and off remotely. I don't want the system on 24/7 to play on this occasionally.

I haven't used the Backbone but based on my experience with the Razer Kishi V2 it works but is far from ideal.

-Impossible to make an add on controller that is one size fits all AND doesn't wiggle or 'flap' on your phone.
-Does not work with 99% of cases so get good at taking the case on and off*
-Kills your phone battery while gaming*
-Anything phone related (texts, notifications, etc) interrupts your gaming unless you silence them but then you aren't getting notifications either*
-Depending on the use case many of the apps are just cobbled together 3rd party alpha versions. Not even mentioning the privacy concerns with unknown apps from unknown authors running all the time in the background on your phone.*

*Note: Some of these problems can be lessened if you have a spare phone hanging around. The phone only needs connection to wifi so does not need an active line.

IMO it is no surprised there are so many "open box" options on Amazon and eBay. They probably see 30 minutes of use before someone gives up on the concept.

Your results may vary depending on how good the WiFi is at the place you're at when playing away from home but you certainly can play it outside of the home. I have used it in a hotel over their WiFi and it worked pretty well personally. I wouldn't play anything time sensitive like COD or anything like that but for most single player games it's decent.

I do own a Switch as well and it's certainly a better mobile experience since that's what it was designed for and the games are local to the device. Can't really beat the game being hosted directly on the device as far as experience goes. Smilie

No issues with wifi at home...and yes best portable exp is the switch bar none...

99% of the time I play games while my wife watches TV (and I pretend to follow along). She isn't a huge fan of watching me headshot zombies for 2 hours at a time. Silly woman.

Yes the PS5 does need to remain "on" but it can be in Rest Mode. This will wake it up when you connect and when you're done you can put it back in rest mode.
