you are partially correct. It depends on whether or not you need VPN and the login protocol of the cruise line internet. The one I posted works with all protocols including EAP. Even the more expensive ones sometimes dont have EAP. I had the slate model but upgraded first to the Beryl AX model, since on paper that seemed better. But actually using it tells you what the issues were. The Beryl AX didnt have EAP, only worked with an older version of software (with bugs) and it ran hot. Had issues connecting to my VPN and couldnt get VPN to work reliably. So even though it was newer and more expensive and better on paper, it had fewer capabilities, I finally ended up with hte version I posted, had EAP, ran on a more updated firmware, was power efficient and never got hot and was fast enough. It paid for itself many times over on the cruise. (Saved me 2 people x $15/day x 16 days) = $480.) It was worth it spending $90 for certainty vs $20 uncertainty prior to the trip. Yes it was 4x the cost of the $20 model, but if it didnt work, it would have cost me a lot more than the additional money

BTW, I see posts all the time of people that claim model X is better based on specs, but actually never tried it. Wish they would put disclaimers and not be so certain of their claims. (Not talking about your post). Most important for a travel router to me is useability.

These are older obsolete versions. For me, they arent worth the bother despite the low cost. IF you want a travel router, I highly recommend this one:

I used it on a recent cruise with it plugged into an Anker phone battery and it worked as a hotspot all over the ship for my family. Worked perfectly. Also used it in VPN mode to connect back to my home network and while slow, worked OK. (It was slow because the ship internet speed was slow. )

Two websites you might want to check out: https://www.cruiseplum.com/ and https://www.cruisecompete.com/. You can also check out https://www.cruisecritic.com/ for prices and fare insights, but I would take the ship reviews and forum advise with a grain of salt. There is some pretty extreme toxicity on the Cruise Critic forums sometimes, with people that seem impossible to please.

Cruise Plum has a Hot and Last Minute Deals section that will highlight unusually inexpensive room types on specific cruises. There's also the ability to track historical base fare prices over time to better know the best time to get a good deal, and also if you're possibly overpaying.

Once you find a specific cruise & date, then Cruise Compete becomes useful. Submit your cruise info on their website and receive offers from multiple travel agents who all are competing for your business. Many of these rooms are ones the travel agent bought for cheap when the itinerary was announced years prior, which is traditionally when the prices are the absolute lowest. You'll almost always pay less than the cruise line's website advertised price, and they'll typically throw in other nice to haves, like on board credit.

I've used Cruise Compete on three sailings so far and have another one on the books for September. For my last cruise, I saved almost $700 vs Royal Caribbean's website price and also received $100 in OBC. It doesn't cost you anything to submit for offers, so there's really not much to lose there. The site looks pretty outdated and janky, but it's legit.

Hard to say for each device.
If you want to modify each interface , you need get interface name to modify the IP packets characters.
login the device with terminal, use Linux command "ifconfig" to get each interface information

You could configure them that way yes. I did this for a family member that had a dead WiFi card in an iMac I didn't want to open up to replace.

The only difficultly I've had was learning to expand the memory. It has a limited amount built-in, but can be expanded with micro SD card.

This is good to know. I also got the Beryl AX a bit over a year ago new and direct from Glinet and was dissappointed because of the unstable firmware and no EAP support. I noticed it takes several years after release for GLinet to get a stable firmware, so I would caution against buying their latest and greatest. I ended up returning it since I wanted something that worked now, not in a year from now and got an older model that was more energy efficient. That worked great.

Why do people need internet on cruise ship!? Disconnect from the world. Or don't go on a cruise if you can't live without internet. Half this thread is about cruise ship internet.

A lot of the thread is about cruise ship internet because of the way cruise lines charge for internet access. You typically pay for each device, so if you can pay for a single connection and use it on multiple devices, those savings add up. For some lines such as MSC, your access is permanently tied to the MAC address of whatever you first connect with, so you can't even log out/log back in on another device. Cruise internet ranges from $12-30 per day, so saving money here is a big consideration, especially if you can do so with a $15 device.

While I partially agree with the sentiment that you should just "disconnect from the world", unfortunately in this day and age, that's not always possible. Some ports of call will give free internet access near the dock, while others do not. It's nice being able to send a message to family members, the people watching my house and pets, check the weather, make a phone call via wifi, etc. while away.

I didn't know it's even possible. Guess like you said they have 2 wifi antennas and can broadcast and receive at the same time.
