Happy meals are a scam, I've eaten dozens and I'm still not happy.

If you're ever in Chicago and are a McDonald's fan, be sure to check out the company's headquarters in the West Loop. There, you can try hamburgers offered in other countries, a unique experience you won't find anywhere else in the States.

I've been getting 1 dollar Big Macs and other "premium" sandwiches regularly with the app for years. I'd imagine I've single handedly cost McDonald's thousands of dollars. I never buy it unless it's significantly discounted.

Count me in on the Big Mac and happy meal day

Explain how they make money selling me a large drink and a Big Mac for 1 dollar. There is no possible way to make a profit on that. I've ran a restaurant, the drink alone is like 70-80 ¢ per serving. In California, it's at least $1.20 due to increased labor costs and generally things being more expensive.
The cup, lid and straw cost more than the soda . You said you "ran a restaurant" obviously didn't work out if you think a drink costs a store 70-80 cents. I would be shocked if a large coke would cost MCD much more than 12 cents if that.

You could score a ton of cheap and even free food in the late 1990s/early 2010s. McD's had regional promotions (get X when X sports team does X), restaurants had their own promotions and these could be combined with coupons on the app. For a few years, they had a promotion in which you could get a free Big Mac with purchase when one of the sports teams did something, so you would tell them verbally at the window, redeem the free fries coupon on the app and get a large drink for $1.

Those days are over. Almost all promotions require redemption via the app and the most recent "free Big Mac" promotions required a $3 minimum purchase. Still a deal obviously but hardly the free and $1 Big Macs of yesteryear.

In SoCal, McD's coupons have gotten pretty tight. Even the perpetual $6 Big Mac Value Meal deal changed to a Double Cheeseburger recently. If you don't use the app, they'll throw you a bone -- sometimes even a 50% discount off your entire purchase -- but that's about it.

Lmao comparing a small restaurant to McDonald's.

McDonald's likely gets stuff way cheaper than a typical restaurant, due to the volume they move and having contacts in place.

That's like thinking Amazon pays as much to ship an item, as consumer pricing.

Phase out self serve soft drinks?

Late pandemic response, or cashing in already least expensive item to try to get increased profit margin?

You're getting downvoted, but it's definitely the case that you're being "subsidized" by people who buy full price combos with their $1 drink. You're obviously correct that Mcdonalds does not make money on a $1 Big Mac as you suggested. Some here are operating under the delusion that McDonald's operating costs are something approximating zero.

Talkin' about hashbrown, what the hell is wrong with their hashbrowns? It's like $3.50 for 1 tiny hashbrown. It used to be $1 for 2.. Damn..
