This is a good deal on a forgotten guitar in the rock guitar lineup. This 5150 is very similar to a Charvel (same parent company) except the trem is set up for dive-only. It also lacks coil splitting.

If you want a lighter guitar, this is preferable over a Charvel. These can arrive as light as 7lbs 10oz. Many Charvels these days with a Floyd are a full pound heavier. Obviously, YMMV. Adorama still has a deal on FR Charvels at $649.

YouTuber Cameron Cooper did a comparison between the Wolfgang and the 5150, and the Charvel San Dimas and the 5150. Worth a view.

I took the Adorama deal on the Pharaoh's Gold Wolfgang Special. It came before this deal went live, but I would've done it anyway. I like the features of the Wolfgang, and I'd prefer a Charvel over the 5150 for the better finish options and the Strat-style headstock over the hockey stick.

Still, this is a good deal if you prefer a Strat body over the Wolfgang maple leaf design. The pickups are the same for that EVH tone. I'm not a fan of the red button kill switch, but it's a plus over the WG Specials if you need it.

It's not made in the US. Just another over-priced import.

Buying American is a waste on this type of guitar for 90% of players. An MiA Floyd equipped guitar from Charvel or Jackson is $2k-$2,500 on up. The MiM Charvels and EVH guitars are well built. I have both. $799 is the lowest you'll find a Floyd 1000 unless you get a Harley Benton.

An Original FR is $250-300. It's a drop in. Save a ton of money and buy an MiM if that's the goal.
