I really hope the SRG team does the right thing. Usually SRG replies quickly. I hope to hear back sometime this week
I will report back with the outcomes

Plus to be fair, by the letter of the offering from Microcenter, these were supposed to come with 90 day warranty. If you bought these from the store with no indication of these being open-box, then you could argue for 3 years (given it was super YMMV at the start, Microcenter didn't even know anything about these in-store).
Otherwise if you bought via slickdeals or another deal site; you should have know the terms of the purchase. I

They are re-updating the 3yrs warranty to start from the purchase date
They have updated the warranty back to active status for all affected elitebooks
Now I will be submitting warranty repair tickets for the batteries
My guess is from sitting for 3 yrs, the lithium cells degraded. So their lifespan was cut down substantially, after being used for a year they went kaput

They mail the replacement parts to the end user, and then you're supposed to schedule with the authorized field repair company for the warranty labor. But I will just swap the batteries myself. I've already been inside all of them anyways doing the SSD and memory upgrades (went with 1TB NVME and 2x16GB memory)
Besides the batteries crapping out (again, likely due to them sitting for 3 yrs in the box), these are fantastic machines.

I barely use mine. Most times I need to plug it into the mains to turn on as it's gone into it's deep sleep.

And more to do with the fact that the batteries were allowed to drain and sit in a box for 3 years. This depleted prolonged state is bad for lithium batteries and drastically reduces capacity (ie lifespan)
To answer your question on how often I use it...I bring one of them to work every day, usually booted up at least once and used for a little bit here and there throughout the day if I need to do personal stuff on it (our work laptops are locked down). Another is used daily by family member. The others are used maybe a couple of times a month to keep things updated, charged, sync'd etc
