Is this a better value than the $999 base M2 model at Best Buy? I've always been scared of buying refurbished products that have used batteries.

It really depends on your needs. Obviously the M2 is going to be much better but not 40% better for the average consumer unless you're doing processor intensive things like video or photo editing at which point I would probably recommend a pro instead of the air. Not sure about it the batteries in refurbish units, but they should be nearly new and definitely well above the 80% capacity limit.

I tried to sell mine on FB Market place for $500 with no luck so I traded it in to Best Buy for $575.
The MacBook Air M1 is probably the best bang for your bucks laptop out there even in 2024. Tho I wouldn't pay $600 for used/refurbished unless it's factory refurbished.

A few office apps plus a thousand chrome/Firefox tabs is exactly how I use mine and it has worked perfectly for my purposes since I bought it at the time of release.
