What basis is your opinion? Do you own both or used both? I have.
1. +20% faster
2. Larger display 13.6" 500 nits brightness vs 13.3" 400 nits, liquid retina vs retina so more colors (billions vs millions)
3. Magsafe vs no magsafe
4. 1080p facetime camera vs 720p
5. Longer support from Apple

Worth $200 more? I got the M2 from tax free B&H, so the cost difference was $140 after tax for the M2. Definitely worth the difference.
I meant the processor..and I don't state opinions, sorry buddy

Not an issue for me, even ran a windows 11 arm VM on mine while web browsing etc. great laptop. Next one I buy will be the 15" with 16gb, but I think most people would be okay with 8gb.

The highlighted section is Apple's marketing gimmick that they sold folks when they launched MBP 14 with 8GB variant to replace old 13 inch MBP model.

It is- but it's somewhat accurate. M1 8gb MacBook runs great. No slowdowns like windows laptop with x86 cpu and 8gb.

"At some point" is very broad. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro still runs great even with Monterey. If I can get a decade out of a PC I consider that a win.
At some point, before 10 years, Apple can and will update the operating system so 8GB isn't enough forcing you to buy a new laptop. It can be next year for all you know. Buy a 16GB version and be safe.

Chrome is awful at memory management. I've never had a memory issue from using Safari. No matter how many tabs I use.

Chrome addressed that last year. 8GB is sub-par, even with their architecture and SSD in the M1 generation. My phone has 12GB.

I have the m1 air. I am not a power user and pretty much bought it to have a bigger iphone.

Anyway during covid i picked up intense biking and also had a gopro8. I tried to make movies on iMovie and it would crash and overheat all the time so i gave up. I dont think the m1 can handle much.

I was able to create 4K videos with ease on the 8gb M1. It would get hot but never overheated. And of course it would get hot. It doesn't have a fan.

So right now I have the latest Intel MBP (2,3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7) with 32GB RAM.

Pretty annoyed by the fan and lack of battery life.

I know that 8GB RAM instead of 32GB would mean I can't have 150+ Chrome tabs open anymore. Other than that, how much difference does the M1 chip make?
To get more life out of your Intel MacBook run Turbo Boost Pro and turn the processor turbo off unless you really need the power. I think the website/dev is rugiacap or something

I bought a lightly used, low battery cycles M1 MBA with 16 gb ram/512 storage for $650 on FB months ago. NO comparison; better deal than this.,

For new, the Air with M1 has been $849 as the cheapest for 16GB RAM. It's also been available for $749 but with the Spanish keyboard.
Then we have the air with M2 chip and the cheapest the 16GB model has been was $899 but I think that was only available for veterans.

You probably can get them cheaper refurbished and esp from third party sellers but that's a double edged sword. The seller posted here is authentic and has been posted on SD for years.
