Anyone interested in this kind of stuff would probably be interested in trying Sambal Oelek. It's cheaper and it's like srirachas cool uncle

Calabrian peppers are a medium-hot chili (25,000 to 40,000 Scoville heat units). To put that in perspective, they're between three and 16 times hotter than JalapeƱo peppers; they're generally considered slightly milder than cayenne peppers

While both are chili pastes, this is meaningfully different from sambal oelek which is more… sour? I don't know the language of flavor.
This wouldn't be bad in ramen I guess, but I wouldn't put sambal on an Italian dish.
If you have room in the fridge I'd keep both around. Both are delicious.

I thought Sambal Oelek is a chili paste and has a different use, and is mostly used in cooking, versus Sri Racha which is used as a condiment?
There is not hard rule, both can be used for either purpose.
Sambal (not just oelek) can be used as a condiment, I use them for things like gyoza, fried rice, scrambled eggs. Sriracha can be used in cooking as well, like in marinades.

This is good stuff, shame it's primarily sunflower oil with EVOO as the secondary oil - Thanks a lot, OP, now you have me searching high and low for bomba calabria and neonata/rosa maria fish and pepper spreads
Genuine question, whats wrong with Sunflower oil?

I personally use it as both, liberally

If this is blowing your head off hot, it's probably very similar to Trader Joe's Calabrian Peppers. They are excellent. However our go-to is sambal olek, used 1 teaspoon tonight for salt & pepper shrimp and they were outstanding, and very hot.
Lol 1tsp. I marinate my shrimp in 1/2 cup of lime juice, 1/2 cup lemon juice(you can just use 1 cup of lime if you prefer), 1/4 cup avocado oil, 2T minced garlic, half of a jar of sambal, good bit of kosher salt and water to cover(usually about 1/2 a cup). Marinate for 30 minutes to an hour then hop them on the grill.

If you really like spicy make a sauce out of sambal, honey, ponzu, and lime juice. And baste the shrimp just before finished cooking. You can add mayo to that sauce to make a dipping sauce, or add sambal to cocktail sauce as well.

I use sambal too much in my kitchen lol. But if sambal is truly too spicy, try using the garlic chili paste from the same company, it's a little milder and brings a great garlic flavor with it.

I believe the peppers in Sambal are fermented, just like in Sriracha, hence the difference in taste.

Where are people finding Sambal Oelek these days? Amazon has sellers with it but I can't find it anywhere in stores anymore.

Seed oils such as sunflower oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, etc... cause inflamation. For me, I try to avoid seed oils to reduce my arthritis of the hand.

I try to look for olive oil and avocado oil for cooking and for ingredients instead of seed oils.
