I agree. For $1800, this better have at least a 4070 Ti Super or a 7900 XT.

What are your thoughts on a custom build like this? https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuild/..._good_buy/

For $1700, you could make a custom build that includes a 4080 Super—if you DYI. You can use https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ to put everything together as a starting point. But know that Micro Center and Newegg offer decent part combo deals, where you can get multiple parts at a pretty good discount.

The build you linked to could be replicated as a ~$1400 DYI.

How are you getting ~$1400 DYI? Please correct me if I did it wrong but I'm getting over $1700 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WcF79c

What use is a $370 i7-13700K with a 4070 Super GPU? You might as well get a 7800X3D for $360, the best gaming CPU on the market. Also, you don't even need liquid cooling, which is another waste of money.

If you're building a gaming PC, which is what I had in mind, you put a much-cheaper, yet just as good, Ryzen 5 7600X (which beats the 5800X3D), get DDR5 RAM, add a $35 Thermalright Phantom Spirit air cooler (which performs similarly to the best air coolers out there), and save a couple hundred.

Your build looks OK, but you're overpaying for the CPU, liquid cooling, motherboard, and the OS. All of these can gotten cheaper for similar performance.

Here's a similar build under $1400, not including the OS (which can be had for under $50). It's proof of concept, so I didn't polish the list—but it can be done: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mMzqQP

For ~$1700, you could maybe squeeze a 4080 Super in there with some modifications or combo pricing deals and some patience—I see that MSRP variants are out of stock, but they'll be back soon.

Yes, a Ryzen 5 7600x is not apples to apples with an I9-13900kf

Indeed, but when you combine it with a 4070 Ti or a 4070 Super, it really won't make much difference. Plus, you'd get more performance with a slightly lesser, cheaper CPU and a better GPU.

Either way, for gaming, the 13900(KF) would be a colossal waste of money. If you want a top CPU, the 7800X3D performs best, uses much less power (so generates less heat), and costs much less. And you can use the savings towards a better GPU (or other components).

Having shopped with great anticipation before Christmas, I built a decent rig for similar price. I can't say enough about the folks that are truly interested in helping their fellow SDers. Really - I applaud you all.
