It works well but miss a lot of important features (No VPN support, no possibility of creating a network per band) also no web interface. This is a bit barebones for advanced users
A network is suppose to be invisible, so is it worth upgrading? Ifnyour current network d9es everything you want / need it to do and doesn't drop or cause you headaches, then NO you don't need this or any other one. Rule of thumb 👍

Seems like Google recently dropped the regular price of these to $319...unless that just a sale for the weekend. But the 3-pack is also going for $319 on Google's store, so this must be the new normal price. Either way $399 or $319, seems like a slick deal to me to grab this 3-pack for $159. Free 1-day shipping for me in SoCal (YMMV)

Was about to buy this to get more coverage in my home. But I'm going to hardware my older router to my newer router and extend my signal that way. Seems a lot easier. 🤷

Wouldn't that create two networks? You won't have all your devices under one network then.

Is it worth upgrading the version 1 google home wifi (the hockey puck ones) to this one?

Setting up smart devices that only work off 2.4ghz would be a hassle. Especially because your phone will keep connecting to the 5ghz or 6hz band

Wifi 6, 6e, 6GHz channel and longer software support. Seems google goes about 6-7 years for router firmware updates. These just came out last year. Your phone and computers may support 6 or 6e. My phones and computers all do.

I have two of these. Bought this 3 pack to fill out a few spots where the 6GHz channel wasn't as strong.

Excellent deal.

Those who want to do "advanced networking" should try out a cheap Mikrotik router. That's what I came from to the google nest pros.

Only downsides are range isn't in the top 5 and the speeds for 2.4, 5 and 6GHz are also not in the high end. I still don't know anyone that can transfer gigabits worth of data on a sustained basis. If you have 3 of them, then the range doesn't really matter.

Cheapest I've seen these with a power cord is around $80 on ebay. So this is a terrific price.

I found an easy fix for that, and many devices don't have that limitation anymore.

The easy fix is to take the phone and device (with an extension cord if its a/c powered) out to the front yard and walk away from the house until the phone drops to 2.4GHz. Set the device up and bring it back inside.

I had the last gen and the system gave me a headache everyday. My kids yelling " the wifi is not working", the points constantly dropping, and lack of updates. Will never buy a wifi system from Google/nest again
