Heads-up on CLEAR Membership Price Increase at Renewal

Just got this notice yesterday and thought I'd share since I did not see it posted elsewhere. I was not aware that they did yet another price increase last fall. I've typically relied upon the AMEX platinum benefit and use of base-level MileagePlus program to cover most of the costs of the program for our family of 3. In just a year, CLEAR has essentially doubled the cost and I simply cannot justify an additional $200 for the two family members that rarely travel. It looks like it is related to oversubscription in many areas based upon this article: https://www.travelandleisure.com/...se-8404853. Thought I'd share in case others missed their renewal notice and do not want a nasty surprise. You can cancel within 60 days of being billed to get a refund as well.

QUICK UPDATE - It looks like family members are immediately disenrolled instead of not renewed if you deactivate them in the "Family Plan" settings within the membership portal. I then went to "Billing and Membership" and it does NOT immediately cancel the membership if you cancel from there (planning to just renew me) and was given an additional two months of free family membership. It is not much of a retention but thought I'd mentioned this if you are looking to extend your current membership for two months without paying for the increase. I'm setting a calendar reminder to cancel prior to the renewal taking place.

Your membership renews on March 18, 2024. Unless your MileagePlus® status changes before that time, you will be billed a total of $377 on March 18, 2024. As we continue investing in the CLEAR Plus experience, we have updated our pricing:

• Premier® Silver, Gold or Platinum MileagePlus member, the price for your primary account will increase from $109 to $149 on your renewal date.
• United U.S. Credit Cardmember, the price for your primary account will increase from $109 to $149.
• MileagePlus member, the price for your primary account will increase from $119 to $179 on your renewal date.
• Premier 1K®, the price for your primary account will remain at $0.

You have 2 family members on your account (XXXXXXXX and XXXXXX), for which you will be billed $198 on your renewal date and is included in the total bill amount noted above. As we continue investing in the CLEAR Plus experience, we have increased our pricing for the family membership to $99.

As a reminder, with your American Express Platinum Card® card on file, you'll get up to $189 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR.
