I love how you openly admit you have zero experience with these rice cookers but you still had to go out of your way to talk about how they are a gimmick.

But thank you for admitting you have no idea what you're talking about.

As someone who went from a basic rice cooker to a neuro fuzzy logic Zojirushi, I can tell you it completely changed the game for how we eat rice. Yes, it's perfect rice every time, but that's only part of the benefit. For me, it makes it so rice is always available at all times, so now it's a breakfast or lunch snack. It stays perfect for at least a good two days. Like it was just made 10 minutes ago. I have the NP-HCC10 which is almost the same rice cooker in a different form factor. This is the new design but is very similar in performance. You can save about $50 or so if you get a non- induction version, but I like the more uniform and energy efficient way that induction works over conduction.

korean makes horrible rice cookers and cars
I am korean and I could not agree more.
Bought a $400 fancy Cuckoo rice cooker. Rice starts to turn brown and stale within 24hrs of cooking, as oppose to Zojirushi, where it can last fresh for upto 72hrs.
Cuckoo seal broke just after warranty and replaced the seal but it just crapped out after few months (leaking steam and rice coming out raw)
Korean brands look fancy with all the bells and whistles but still lack in quality.

I went all out as well on a Cuckoo $400 and while it did work, there were so many bloody options to perfect the timing/heat/pressure that even after many attempts I couldn't get it to cook my rice the way I wanted it and the way my kids enjoyed it from my 14yo Tiger cooker. It's like it over saturated my rice even experimenting with less water! Thankfully I was able to return it. It's definitely meant for a more specific taste and maybe if I used it with other grains like gaba or used brown rice more I'd be okay, but we mostly just do sweet rice or jasmine. I'll look into this thing when my Tiger starts failing or when all my kids hit teens!

Glad to know from you that I'd also saved myself from high possibility of seal failure 🥲

If you eat rice at least 3-4 times a week, definitely worth getting. If you rice once in awhile, probably not.

My 2 cents.

I do love my Zojirushi. I'm just irritated cause I just bought my replacement (gave my old one to my niece) back in November lol. Would have preferred to get this one.

Y'all are nucking futs! $250 for a rice cooker?

Fun fact I cooked 3 cups of white rice last night. It came out perfect because I can follow instructions.

How can you justify spending this much on a gadget that takes up countertop space and makes the same thing I made last night?
You drive a car to work? Fun fact, I save so much money not paying a car note, insurance, or gas. I walked to work. Thats what you seem like to people above your pay grade.

You're not considered an Asian unless you have either a zojirushi or tiger rice cooker in your house. Anything else, and you're a banana (inside joke)

What's the value of a good rice cooker like this over the cheap one I've been using forever? I'd like to upgrade but what do I get out of it?
After colege ive come to appreciate a high end rice cooker. The biggest thing is the consistency and ease of use. I have like 3 diff rice cookers, one from the 90s, a cheap one from amazon for $40 (w/ alleged micom), and a $150 one i bought from a korean brand.

The old 90s one makes decent rice but its kinda slow and inefficient, it cooks fairly consistently cause of the thick wall but every thing is manual and it only cooks rice w/ an on/off switch

My $40 one has the thinnest walls of any cooking bowl which leads to either overcooking or undercooking the rice which i have to think about every time i make rice in it because you gotta think about how much water you have to add to make sure it wont overcook. The bowl is made of aluminum which conducts heat well but it doesnt distribute it evenly, and after a few uses some spots on the bowl are starting to dent and warp. The wall thickness makes a big diff in how evenly it gets cooked, rice also sticks more to the non-stick walls ironically. Its supposed to combat this w/ some form of Micom (which is a little computer that has like heat curve profiles) but it does a really poor job at it. This is what I used throughout all of college and i prob wouldn't but another one again at this price point.

My slightly nicer $150 one i just hit the button and even if my ratios of water/rice are off the result are always consistent & fluffy. The cooked product is always within expected range of a decent bowl of rice given the amount of water you put in. It makes other things like porridge, bread, and all, and it has a self cleaning function w/ vapor maintenance to prevent any mold/bacteria from growing inside the vented area. The Micom in it actually works properly as well. I think Zojirushi actually popularized micom which is why its so common on japanese & korean cookers.

It cooks better rice especially brown or other special "hard" rice. I have one induction heat pressure zojirushi for over 10 years. It perfectly cooks every piece of rice evenly, which means every single rice being same in a bowl, no one too sticky or too hard/raw. Normal cooker can only leave top layer rice dry/hard and bottom layer wet/sticky, due to uneven water absorption.
However, I have to say, it has a nonstick layer inside its pot and it started to peel after around 7 years of daily heavy use. It still works strong for me, but if the layer safety bothers you, just choose instant pot with stainless pot.
Btw it cooks rice very slow. The "quick cook" takes around 35 minutes and "brown rice activated" takes over 3 hours. The most setting I use for white rice is 60 min and for brown rice is 80 minutes. But it has the timer setting, setting the "finish time" instead of "delayed time", which never missed the dinner for me.

If you live in a household where rice is served at least 4-5 days a week, this is well worth it. Of course you can cook rice traditionally but you have to spend time cooking it. Rice makers are dummy proof and make rice perfectly every time with the push of a button. No stirring or making sure the rice doesn't stick. And it keeps the rice warm for hours and sometimes even days. You must not be a rice guy

"Induction". It heats by INDUCTION!!!!! (i.e. nothing) But you might get inducted into a sucker's club or something. Resistive heating is very efficient. Rice isn't a magnetic material, so this is just a gimmick. I make rice often (in fact, coincidentally, I just bought a 25lb bag o Jasmine rice tonight at an Asian market). I start with a 3qt pot, put in 1.5 cups of rice. I rinse it three times in cold water over the sink. I add 2.25-2.5 (Jasmine- basamati) cups of liquid- water or stock, etc. Then I heat on high until it's boiling vigorously, and I stir it a couple of times to make sure it doesn't stick to the pan. One stir when it starts to boil gently, another when it's really going. Then I turn the burner all the way down. and leave it covered for 18-20 minutes (depending on previous results with that bag of rice). Brown rice takes about 5 minutes longer, and basamati usually takes the 19 minutes. One minute before it's done, I fluff it with a fork. If I want to add ingredients, like scallions or marjoram, or something- I do that at 18 minutes. I turn off the burner and let it sit for a couple of minutes (or as long as I need it to while I finish cooking the rest of the meal). And- perfect rice every time. (I wear a Timex watch and use the stopwatch) Precise timing is the best, but it's pretty forgiving.

I have two Instant Pots (which are supposed to be good for rice, but I never needed to try), a slow cooker, a toaster oven, an air fryer, along with lots of other kitchen appliances (but I don't have a food processor, I gave it away). Simple wins the day, for us anyway.

Put leftover rice in the fridge, well-covered (and don't wait too long after cooking). You can use it after day one for fried rice. Or add a bit of water (or a pat of butter, which is 20% water), and reheat in the microwave.
I love how you openly admit you have zero experience with these rice cookers but you still had to go out of your way to talk about how they are a gimmick.

But thank you for admitting you have no idea what you're talking about.

If you mean stays perfect on keep warm for days I agree, it does, but I thought I saw that you shouldn't hold it more than 15 or 18 hours or something due to bacteria? I know it keeps it heated but I swear I saw something that made me stop using past 15-18 hours. I can't find it again now.

If you are on the fence and new to rice cookers, I suggest the NL-DCC10, currently $120 at Amazon. It elevated my game from rice in a bag to good rice. I get more usage out of the timer than I thought I would. I use the timer function whenever I have something going on in my crock pot.

What maintenance did you do to keep it working that long? We had a couple that lasted average 2 years only, leaking too much, followed all cleaning directions. Thanks in advance.
