Expensive dumbbells, like the Rogue in the link below are only guaranteed to be +/- 3%
So the Rogue ones, which cost $1.68/lb, are allowed to fluctuate between 38.8 lbs to 41.2 lbs for a 40lb dumbbell.

So the Rogue ones, which cost $1.68/lb, are allowed to fluctuate between 38.8 lbs to 41.2 lbs for a 40lb dumbbell.

Fixed-weight dumbbells have none of the rattling adjustables tend to have, and much higher durability. You can drop them on a (rubberized) floor without fear or risk of damage. You can do that with some of the higher-quality adjustables, but you really don't want to and you do risk longevity of the weight.
If you buy a full set of fixed-weight dumbbells, you also don't have to deal with the time/annoyance of changing weights.
You can also do things like rest the weights on your knees more safely and easily with fixed-weight dumbbells than you can adjustables, and a fixed-weight dumbbell is almost always more compact than an adjustable set to the same weight.
