Good deal! Great processor with upgradable ram. It's a beast but in an underwhelming package (screen/ports). For those who can benefit from the power and can make due with a just okay screen/ports then def consider this.

That was my thought. Put this config together with an OLED screen and I'd be all over it.

I think the price is great but how is the cooling performance on this model? HP isn't known for their stellar cooling configs so I suspect it'll easily overheat and downclock. also lack of i/o such as dual type c or thunderbolt is unfortunate.

Maybe true but this is just an APU. No dedicated GPU saturating the cooling solution.

buy this one, instead of the Mini PC, because it's cheaper and it has a monitor (although the monitor is not good)

I have personally used this laptop for a week, as a loan from my friend who bought it, with 7840HS (In India) and I can share my 2 cents here.
  • Display: Lets address this 1st as this is the weak point. The Display os matte and the brightness is slightly over 300 nits in the unit, around 320. It is perfectly fine for Indoor use, even in a brightly lit room and outdoor, under shades. Also, it has been well calibrated in the factory and the contents look good for a 62% sRGB display.
  • Performance:I have ran CPU-Z stress test to measure the total power and it can sustain 45 Watt for a decent amount of time, if you set it to performance mode in My Asus Software. It goes intially around 57W and then drops back to 42-45W but can sustain that and the fans are not too loud on that mode. I would say, the performance is around 85% on average of a full sized Gaming laptop with 7840HS, running it at 70W.
  • 780M performance: the 780M is pretty decent here but if you are stressing both CPU and GPU by a lot, it runs around 2500 MHz, instead of the maximum 2700 MHz, probably due to the 45W Power. But in most games, you're not gonna stress both that much together.
  • Type-C: The Type-C port is full functional but 5 Gbps, instead of USB4 or even USB 3.2 gen 2 10 Gbps. I have used my 80W USB-C Charger and HP 65W Charger with this successfully. 4K@60Hz works but was unable to check 4k@120Hz or higher as during that time, I did not have access to one.
  • Overall use case: if you're getting this for daily works like Documentation, Excel, Coding using Visual Studio or other IDE, running local databases, CPU/GPU accelerated Video encoding, it has enough power. I was running PowerBI desktop on it with huge datasets and Oracle Xe 23 Free on it, along with Python based predictive analysis based on the datasets from the local DB and everything was working properly.
  • Fan Noise: For normal usage, fan noise is pretty low and it does go completely silent if you are just browing through web or reading documents, scrolling throuh webpages or documents. It does a bit high during gaming or say doing a video encoding but not that loud. I don't have sound measurement equipments but I think it is around 45-48DB at max.

P.S: I am sure that using 3rd party utilities like AMD APU Tuning Utility, x86 Universal Tuning Utilities, you can up the TDP to get more performance in both CPU and IGP but did not test those as it was not mine.

Might not be compatible as in different laptops, the internal Display connections are not a single standard form. That is especially true for OLED displays as it even needs far more optimization from the manufacturer, The display you have linked, is for the VivoBkk Pro 16X which is a way higher end model and does come with an OLED display, meaning it has the internal connection to support it.

Anybody know if Best Buy will price match? I have been carrying a petty grudge against Amazon for years and it's too late to give in now.

Otherwise, great deal, thanks OP!
