Unless you have a habit of visiting sketchy sites or downloading pirated files, Windows Defender works great. It's built in to Windows and it's free. It's light on system resources and you don't have to worry about managing subscriptions.

I work in IT. Norton literally slows your PC down and is worse than Windows Defender.

None of these products will protect you from phishing.

Every year I say I'm going to get rid of Norton, and then every year there's a deal for such little money that I just cave in and re-up for another year.
I guess I'm nervous about windows defender. Will it remove scripts from downloaded files? Does it verify downloaded Exe files are virus free? Does it monitor for sketchy web addresses that a site might launch?

These are all things that I see Norton doing all the time. I have kids and a wife that may not be the savviest web surfers out there...

A steal as in literally, stealing from you.

Windows Defender is the only AV anyone should actually use, and it's included in Windows; for free.

Honestly, the people still buying these AV subscriptions are either old, have a habit of doing so because they grew up in the 90's 2000's where AV's were mainstream.. or they just don't know any better.

With that said.. the cloud storage might be worth the price for routine backups; if you can use it without installing the boatload of other garbage.
If you don't want Norton, you should not get it. For me, it's something I am apt to continue to do as I have for perhaps 10 years or so.

honestly the only reason I think of getting this is for the firewall, I don't trust a open PC.

I do have PIA but it slows my computer down imao.

Norton never catches anything though

All the negative feedback is from folks who haven't tried since 10-20 year or is just being biased. Norton has improved a lot but not the best thing out there but pretty solid (no slow down unless you are running a brick old comp) it is also used widely even in large setting Norton 360, Symantec Endpoint Protection, also crowdstrike.

Just note, I have used Norton for years. Last year I made a reminder to turn off auto renewal like 10 days before it expired. They charged me the going rate like 30 days prior to expiration, not the day it expired. I did not get any emails to remind me it was renewing or anything like that. I did get an email that I was charged which is how I knew. I was able to contact them and immediately and get a refund, but if you don't notice it right away you may be out of luck. Turning auto renew off immediately after installing is the better way to go.
I got the same e-mail yesterday and a charge of $148! Had to call and have them cancel. They then went through 2 sales pitches of first 20% then 50% off which I said no thank you.
Now came over to slickdeals to see whats available. @ $20 for 10 devices its OK. How do we get rid of those annoying popups on the side?

Most of them where you click the x to close will give an option to not show that message again. I imagine you have to do that in each one so who knows if it ever goes away completely.
